Thanks Niels !
BTW, You should also give some news of your panel
I have a few questions to help me in my parts researches :
- I think i read somewhere a while back, that the fuel tap is specific on pre-53 busses... Am i right ? What are the differences ? Fuel line should be 6 or 8mm ?
- I have 2 bakelite domelights, one have a blank lens and one have a GHE and VW logo in the outside middle of the lens. Which one is the earlier type ? I would guess the one with logos ?
- I thought pre-53 busses had specific tie rod ends with the grease nipple on the side, but my bus have all of them on the top as later barndoors, even with its only 8 years of services... Are the early tie rods earlier than June 52 or shoud I have them ? I thought the model with nipple on the side should come with a bezel + spring instead of a rubber but i have seen one nos for sale with a rubber... what setup should i have ?
- And at least, what is the correct ground strap for the crashbox ? (length ?)
Thanks in advance for all the informations!
And if you have any parts mentioned, like another logo'd domelight lens or early tie rods please let me know

A few other questions.
I have two cargo door handles. One NOS #221 and one used and rechromed #29A. You can see on the pics below that on the top one the numbers ares kinda "stamped" and on the 29A one it's molded and there is a recess around the part numbers.
I've seen there is also a 29A model with the numbers "stamped" like on the 221 so do you know if there is a difference in the period they were used ?
I know, these are insignificants details but if someone know it would be a shame to pass on them...
Thanks !
Florian

For those who like vintage pics, the CNE archive department have been kind enough to send me more pictures. You can find them in my gallery.
Cheers,
Florian

Thank you for posting these.
The images you posted were not 6600x5200.
Can you please email me the 6600x5200 images?
My email is below.
I can host them on this site too, so they don't disappear in the future. _________________ How to Post Photos

The images i posted above are "full size" but they are smaller than 6600x5200 because i cropped them to see the bus better on the preview.
The original pictures show the whole VW stand
I will mail them to you Everett.
Cheers,
Florian |

There is actually no progress on the bus itself yet, as i am still collecting parts.
I want to have most of the metal parts i need before to start the serious bodywork...
I will let you know as soon as there is major update |

I finally got an e-mail from my friend Justin (The grandson of the gentleman Florian bought the van from, who was in the accident with it.)
"It took me awhile to find out what happened but I finally did. In September of 1961 while my grandfather was driving home from work on County Rd 29 near Dawson Rd the left tie rod broke. It pulled the van to the left hand side of the road where he took out a mailbox, then he over compensated to bring it back onto the road sending the van southward into a driveway where a flatbed truck was parked in front of a barn. He ended up going underneath the flatbed. He is lucky to be alive." _________________ '60 Canadian Standard, '64 Bug, another '64 Bug, '66 Bug, '69 Sunroof Bug, '69 GT3 Bug, '71 Super, '72 Super, '73 Canadian Custom, '74 Love Bug, '83 Mexi Bug, '85 Cabrio, '94 Mexi Bug, '99 New Beetle, '02 New Beetle Turbo S, '03 New Beetle VR6. Dam all the pics have gone - shame. With all the BD23 action going on recently I;ve been wondering about this one ESP as we have a decent idea of the quality of the build process!
I hope life gets quiet enough to start soon! _________________ I want a real garage.
