Image quality is probably due to Kodachrome. |

Amazing pics, the colour and quality are so good, that they seem to be from today, like a recreation for a comercial or something else.
It is also cool to know the history behind those pics...
It seems that they spent great times during the trip! _________________ 1967 Split SO-42 Dormobile |

This one looks like an LP Hi Fi album cover for a folk group.
What might their name have been? |

My guess is it was taken with a Leica, using Kodachrome. _________________ 1971 Deluxe Sunroof Bay 1905 stroker, dual idf40's, 74mm Scat forged crank, engle 110 cam. CB 044 heads, AutoCraft rockers, chromoly push rods

Don't know about the camera, but yes - they were Kodachrome slides. |

I'm no expert but in general the old slides I have seen are vastly superior to old prints _________________ How to Post Photos

Still don't know where the first pic was taken, but Lofer is in Austria and the last pic is in Carcasonne in southern France. |

Hold on to your shorts for this one. I got this amazing photo from a friend. Her parents traveled across Europe in 1957 and this euro PG/SG sunroof Standard was their ride. Can't get over the clarity of this nearly 60-year-old pic. Mind = blown.

Could be Paris.
The bus is from Hamburg.
Fascinating |

Found a little more about the trip. It was the summer of 1957 and they were gone most of the summer. My friend's mother was the photographer. She was a schoolteacher at the time and had to be back in the US before school started in September. She was the "chaperone" being the oldest (at 27) of her younger cousin Bert (on the roof rack).
They went through England, France, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark. The Bus is not in the pics in England so it must have been with them for only part of the trip. |

A friend and I traveled thru the US, Canada and Mexico for a year in 1973 in this converted 66 kombi, after graduating from college. We drove 25,000 miles all on $1,500. I am cooking dinner somewhere in California in this picture. We got as far north as Prince George BC, as far south as Mexico City, down the West Coast across the South and up the East Coast returning to where we started in Colorado. The bus did me good and I had an awesome life experience. Now I have a 67 Westy, a 71 Dormobile and a 76 Convertible. Keepin the vibe goin...

Old quality 35mm film has breathtaking dynamic range.
I tweaked the shadows and color balance a little:

OK, after those amazingly clear and sharp photos, mine look pretty ordinary....
One of my photos is my avatar. These were taken circa 1965/66. They are the only photos I have of my Dad's splitty. The one with my older brother jumping off the roof and me standing, is taken in the car park of Sydney's Taronga Park Zoo overlooking Sydney Harbour.
The other photo was taken in the back lane of my Father's house in Sydney (my parents were divorced long before...) and includes one of my sister's and the pretty dark haired woman was my Dad's girlfriend.
I'm not sure of the exact model year (can't see enough clues from the photos) but I think maybe 61 or 62. Aussie buses had semaphores until 59; nipple blinkers introduced 1960, fried egg 1964.....
This is an Aussie bus fully manufactured (not CKD) at the VW Australasia plant. Local production stopped in 1968 and the factory reverted to assembling CKD's. Nissan bought the VW plant in 1976 and all VW's were fully imported from Germany to this day.
