Lind, excellent opportunity with the slides!

If you need help to identify some of the non-VWs in those shots, inquire here- finster, mandraks and I are good at that, as well as a few others.

You probably know that the oval front lic. plate on your neighbor's '63 is not necessarily German- it's a multi-country international customs plate (Z stands for Zoll, German for customs) and can be issued by many city districts within Europe. The issuing city is found on the sticker inside the embossed circle to the right of the top row numbers. Here's one from iowegian's gallery, issued by Heidelberg. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/1998647.jpg

They picked the Westy up at the local dealership in Weidenbruck, so the plate probably came from there. They drove 11,000 miles around Europe over 3 months. It was pretty cool looking at all their pics from the trip. They had a bunch of fun memories. I'll upload all the beetle pics sometime.

Austrian camper is sporting a black 'G' license plate from my hometown Graz.
I cant believe, how or where they found a ribbed 1934-1936 Ford V8 spare wheel cover over here (well sought after part for'cycle type fenders on hot rods in the USA)

Same here. Looks a bit like an MC Escher painting.

as you can see in the ruins total view above, many areas have crumbled and have been covered with roofing since. There is no real sense to many of the shapes.
The shingles in the vintage pics simply seem to come down from the tall wall and make their way around a leftover wall post or such.
maybe the 'weird' part of the roof is part of a stairways/entry that goes up into the castle.

Landskron is really huge, its visible from 30 or 50 kms away. just drove bye a few weeks ago. They also have the coolest raptor zoo up there. meaning, they have trained birds of all kinds, falcons, vultures, even eagles . they let them fly free ( and the thermal winds are just phenomenal on a hot summer day. the birds will be up several thousand feet in minutes). then the trainer starts to swing some prey on a line, and within seconds the raptors do their thing and come shooting straight down to catch their prize. It has to be seen to be believed.

Not very sure of what you are really trying to say here...
The oval plates were only issued in Germany everywhere in Europe. They were for transit vehicles (actually for Export).
Nowadays, Germany still has something related, albeit more modern: rectangular plates (Euro-size) with a red banner at the end, with a date in it. That will tell when the insurance and the validity is up.

Through the slides we can see that some nice places were visited (apparently Scotland, Monaco-Casino) but I was getting carried away when I was spotting a strange Belgian plate attached to the Bus. Wrong one, just another Dove Bus, a Panel.
