Just found this old post in a google search for www.waterboxer.com engines. I was looking at making an offer on a 84 Westfalia with newer engine purchased from waterboxer engines in Raleigh, NC. However, after stumbling across this post I am thinking that would not be a wise decision...suggestions/opinions.
I have been a long time admirer of Westfalias and now finally at a point in life where I have the available time and capital to make Westfalia ownership a reality and would prefer not to embark on this journey by making an unwise purchase. |
Nice going.
A search will save you money and headaches. |

|

I bought a 1984 vanagon, the wbx engine was in the back, some what en tact. I tore it down to nothing, it had a broken stud 222cm,
I ordered locally for parts, some of the local parts houses are real pieces of work. About a month later, the parts are due to come in. I used my American express to pay for the parts, the vendor tried to push off some poor quality incorrect parts. My wife told me to call American express, Express and I filed a complaint,
couple days later< I got a call from the parts house (NOT THEIR REAL NAME). I WAS TOLD TO COME BUY AND THEY WOULD MAKE IT RIGHT. I have used American Express quite a bunch, first time they went to bat. My objective is to get the parts I need to put the WBX back together, I don't want to get anybody fired now a days, I just want my parts, promptly. Cheaper than hiring an attorney. I don't own stock in American Express. Just thought I would share my experience. |

X2...and this goes for people not just buying from this guy, but those selling to him. Before I knew KM was Jake Lake I responded to a Craigslist ad for Vanagon stuff. I loaded up 4 waterboxers in my van to do some trading, sounded so good. When I arrived at a storage facility and a giant guy with a stitched-on name tag saying "Ken" on his shirt appeared, I told him I didn't appreciate his tactics and left. Can't believe he's still out there. Best way to stop the pusher is to cut off his supply. _________________ Joel Lane

This is definitely another Ken Morgan/Jake Lake alias business. The "hand planked" rods and "euro Syncro cam" are a dead giveaway. Steer clear! |
"Hand-planked": that's a moving-target-federal-wire-fraudster-known-as-Ken Morgan trademarked phrase, that's for sure. What does it mean, that he whacks 'em with a board or something? And there was no "Syncro" cam that I was ever aware of, euro or non. It's pure bullshit from morning to night, and night comes lonely at the storage locker.

As strange as it may seem, the only rebuilt WBX engines that are a known quantity (known to be good) are Vanistan, Go Westy, and the guy that built Bob Donalds' engines. I would stick with those if you choose to stick with a WBX. |
