Didn't find much on here using search, anyone using them? Any drawbacks? I found a few posts about them on other websites and they were favorable, mainly talked about much less overspray than even a HVLP and less cfms needed... I'm more interested in how one would work for a somewhat novice using PPG Concept and a quality clear? _________________ Hater of cheap parts and poor workmanship.. |

Are you talking about "vacuum cleaner" paint guns? |

Not sure what a vacumn cleaner gun is, unless you mean a turbine? These are just called LVLP, apparently similar to a HVLP without the large cfm requirements...

There are ones by Sata and Astro also that people on some of the hotrodding forums talk about.. From what I can tell they are supposed to give a better finish than a HVLP if you don't have a huge compressor, people also talk about almost no overspray from them and less paint waste...But there arent all that many posts about them... I've got a Sharpe Finex HVLP (1.4tip) I think I paid about $200 for about 5 years ago, and I never could get it to paint without orange peel, think my compressor was too small.. I ended up painting my Mopar and a Harley a section at a time with my small suction touch-up guns because I understood how to get a decent spray pattern from them I have a much bigger motor and pump on my compressor now, but suspect I may still be limited by the 30-40 gallon tank for running that Sharpe, and bigger compressor not in the budget right now (neither is a $500-800 gun)...I think I'm going to try one of these Summit LVLP ones in the 1.7 for primer and the 1.4 for painting. No bigger than a Bug is, if need be I can spray my final coats of Concept/clear and clear with my touch-up guns again.. _________________ Hater of cheap parts and poor workmanship.. |

I've been using an IWATA LVLP for around 7 years, as a clear coat gun.
1.3 fluid tip.
It took two or three jobs to get used to it - mainly because it is quieter than than my old IWATA HVLP -but I'd never give it up now.
I didn't notice a huge savings in product, but I did see a LOT less overspray and the overall consistancy in the finsh was much better.
The IWATA also cost me $500+ back then. Money well spent as far as I'm concerned, but back then I was painting almost every day.
My compressor chucks out 20+ cfm @ 90 psi, so I can't comment on whether the gun required less cfm, but it does stand to reason. I found the sweet spot to be around 16 psi with the gun triggered. |

Yeah I was thinking you were most likely talking about a turbine gun... Sorry, I have no experience witht lvlp. I have a few Sata's 2000 / 3000 and a Binks & with an agitator cup for flake. |

Wanted to revisit this topic. Searches on the general web shows that this type paint gun is very popular and many have done some quality paint jobs in their home garages with smaller compressors.
Any one using and LVLP over a HVLP and painting out of the garages? |

Thanks didn’t realize that thread was 16 pages. However in the last 4 pages that start in 2012 there is no reference to LVLP(low volume low pressure) as I understand it, it’s a different animal from HVLP. The technic for painting with each is different. I’m interested in LVLP because of its lower overspray and lower CFM requirements making it better suited for someone wanting a quality job in their home garage without leaving everything in your garage the color of your car. Seems like the neighbors will be less likely to realize your painting a car within a few 100’ of hem. |

Note that Duroc-Shark/Evil Box etc are getting Good Results with the Wagner etc turbine paint sprayers.
Tram paints Mercedes/VW's etc with his turbine sprayer.
I've seen a number of his paint jobs & they all look Good!
He wants to paint my squareback BC/CC.
He mixes a little color in the clear on his final coats. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts
