|
|
As a new bus owner I have put together a list of items that I will have onboard when I go on a weekend road trip. I'm sure some of you experienced travellers can add a few. I'm heading up to Austin today. My first road trip over 100 miles (one way).
Tools
Fire extinguisher
Extra fan Belt (generator)
spare tire, Jack
Ok I can't come up with 10 items. Little help here! |

* clutch cable
* accelerator cable
* cap & rotor
* assorted hose clamps
* assorted size hoses
* flashlight
* duct tape
* being a non-smoker, I always keep some spare change in the ashtray
* AIRS list
* AAA Card
That's what I came up with off the top of my head. _________________ -=Rob

For clutch and accelerator cables can one just cary a roll of equal gauge
cable. It doesn't have any fancy connectors at either end does it? |

llamas1,
Get the right cables, they're not expensive and cheaping out or half-assing is a last ditch solution, not the original plan
I learned that the hard way when I was younger. _________________ -=Rob

In addition to what is in the other posts:
-spare front shifter bushing (it's amazing how many people don't change these and you might be able to help them!)
-cable ties (zip ties)
-food and water
-spare clothes/ whatever you might need to survive a night on the road if you break down (ie sleeping bag if it's winter)
-credit card
-pocket knife
-camera
One unused place you can store things like cables and spare parts is under the cooler. _________________ '78 Westy

Under tools, put the following for a serious road trip:
-2 13mm wrench
-2 10mm wrench
-1 17mm wrench
-1 19mm wrench
-Socket kit and driver incuding the sizes mentioned above
-Long and short handled flat head and + head screwdrivers
-Side cutters
-VICE GRIPS!!! (if nothing else, bring vice grips!)
-feeler gauge or something the size of your valve gap
-Test light
-Coveralls ('Cause you never know where you're gonna stop)
and finally, -Duct Tape. It may not be a tool, but it's always useful.

$ and an extra pack of Marlboro Reds in a box. Soft pack will do in a pinch. _________________ Schrodinger's cat walked into a bar and it didn't.

I always carry a couple of quarts of oil with me, and a tire patch kit as well. Actually, most of my tools stay in my bus all the time! _________________ 79 Deluxe Bay

Always bring the wife/girlfriend in a real foul mood- the incessant complaining/bitching and/or sullen silence will give you something to mull over on the really boring stretches... Seriously- cheap entertainment _________________ Ritterlich im Kriege, wachsam für den Frieden |

Well I asked the question and didn't listen to all of your advise.
I was thinking about buying a clutch and throttle cable but didn't have time. As luck would have it guess what happened. read below

Did anyone write Bently, Idiot Guide, and Haynes? Also I have found out that doing the maint BEFORE you leave helps in several ways: The part is fixed or new, you know how to fix the part if (when) it breaks again, you have the old part on hand to use as a spare if its still good. I have figured out that for me reading about how to fix something is nice, but until I actually do it, I have no concept of the time and effort involved, or the little tricks that you learn only by doing something (several times in my case).
