I need to do something with my threshold too. I'd like to see what you come up with. I'm currently taking off the surface rust on my floor and sealing her back up. |
Lowe's has some ribbed aluminum stuff with a little step that looked nice and is not too wide.
It comes in a pewter color that looked good. I'll be sure to post pictures if I go with that.
My only concern there is it won't have the stock little plastic piece that protects the painted surface. _________________ 1976 Westy

I saw that somewhere too. Maybe a classified ad, can't remember.
I did a little pounding on it and couldn't get it to look that great. It's a bit short as well, so there would be a gap on both ends. Oh well, didn't cost me much. _________________ 1976 Westy

Got a few more samples for the curtains in the mail today.
Thinking of the one on the far left now. It's a bit darker than the orange in the stock fabric, but matches well, and would look nice. Might get a little of the green for pillows or something.
And I'll hopefully be able to use these plates when I register it.

I found some paint at Jerry's Artarama that is a really close match to the chrome yellow. They had one that was a shade or two darker that I might give a try if this one is too light.
And, I'm still very curious as to what this hole was for.
Close up:
And for location reference:
Any ideas? _________________ 1976 Westy

Hey Bala, if you are going to do some spot painting, you can get some acrylic enamel mixed up at your local auto supply store, and then you can mix it with catalyst and reducer in the Preval system, and away you go. For spot painting, it is a great little tool, and the paint will be color matched and hard as nails. Basically, you mix up your own spray bomb, and it is very effective. The problem with off the shelf spray bombs is that they rarely match exactly, and the paint is susceptible to gas, etc, and will wipe off eventually. Keep up the good progress. _________________ *****************

Yes to Preval. I love it. (results may vary. Pics to come.) _________________ MAKE FORUMS GREAT AGAIN

Good advise. I'll look into it.
I do need to touch up some interior spots while I have it gutted, so maybe I'll spray a little there just to see how it looks. _________________ 1976 Westy

Thought I would see what I could do about all the little fuzz balls on the upholstery. Starting with the rear seat/bed arm rest.
Before:
Got this for under 10 bucks:
Here is all the junk it removed:
After:
I still have a little scrubbing to do, but here it is cleaned up a bit:
That little Fuzzaway is going to get a workout on the rest of my interior! It did a great job. _________________ 1976 Westy

Thanks Kirk!
Did some clean up today.
Solid metal:
Really not bad, but thought I'd Simple Green this:
Lucky not to have to deal with too much rust:
Cleaned and treated with Naval Jelly:
Used the whole can of spray paint, not a bad match, but not perfect:
I also got a good bit done on installing the laminate flooring. Hopefully finish that up tomorrow and start bolting the interior back in.
Fun, yet hot, day working on the ol' bus! _________________ 1976 Westy

You know, I'm not sure on the sound deadening. I might make a run to HD or Lowe's tomorrow and get some of that peel and stick roofing stuff. Wouldn't hurt. Maybe some insulation board or fiberglass for behind the sink and storage/ice box too. I didn't get the replacement laminate sheeting I need for behind the cabinets, so I won't be able to wrap up the interior this weekend. I'm planning on getting that from Travis Tile Sales. They have some that is an almost exact match for the original. What was in there is barely good enough for a pattern. Hopefully be enough to do the passenger side panels as well. _________________ 1976 Westy

just watch out for the gas that the asphault based products give off....which is why automotive deadener is more expensive, it doesnt do such things _________________ Stuart Zickefoose

Thanks Stu! I've been out of the sound deadening "game" for a while, so, good to know.
In that case I may just throw some insulation in there and roll it like that. I suppose it was good enough for VW, so, good enough for me.
I don't plan on having this as my daily driver, just for camping and VW meetings and such. If it's a little loud I'm not worried about it.

get something thats not gonna hold water either, or be ready to wrap it COMPLETELY in plastic. and if you aim for a thermal insulator, not a sound insulator, then you will have better camping results, cause you will stay warmer in the cold, and cooler in the heat. if your not going for sound quality here, get a thermal insulator and put as much as you can squeeze into the bus. the more you have, the easier the temp is to control _________________ Stuart Zickefoose

POR-15 is a good product.
I know you already did the match of orange.
Looking good though - keep posting! _________________ Nothin left to do....

I hear ya. If the rust was worse I would have POR-15ed it.
I will be using POR-15 (or KBS) on the front floor and a couple other spots.
Thanks! _________________ 1976 Westy
