I spend most of my Samba time on the Beetle section exchanging ideas on my '63, but I have a question for a co-worker. He owns a 2003 Jetta 1.8T with the Tiptronic transmission. The car has 103,000 miles and a stage II engine upgrade package.
The tiptronic transmission works when the car is first started, but when it gets hot it does not change gears properly. Once in high gear, there are no issues with pulling down the road. When the engine is hot, he shifts through all gears manually, and there are no problems. It's an EYP transmission.
VW dealer says new transmission is the only fix. AAMCO won't touch it, and the other transmission guys in town won't mess with it either. Any similar problems out there? Maybe a computer problem? A module or sensor gone wrong? Does not seem to be a mechanical or internal issue as the transmission still pulls fine when shifted manually. |

If it doesn't slip when shifed manually, I'd say the valve body is probably at fault. It's a Jatco box, so someone who works on Japanese cars might be able to deal with it. The brain for the gearbox does have a fault memory, so really checking that out is the first place to go. _________________ I will never lie, but sometimes the truth changes.
