Moderator edit/note: This is an ongoing thread for Van-O-Rama. For the current year's event discussion, refer to the thread's most recent posts.
**********************
Hi All,
It's that time of the year again for a Vanagon GTG. Since we hold Burning Van at Ocean Beach every year now, decided to keep VOR at:
Van-O-Rama #12
Alta Loma Park
450 Camaritas Avenue
South San Francisco, CA 94080
Date: 09/15/2012
Time: 12:00pm (until everyone leaves)
For pics of previous VOR's check Picasa for Van.O.Rama or Facebook link at bottom.
From the 280 freeway, take the Westborough exit. Go east on Westborough. Turn left on Camaritas which is one light before El Camino Real (ECR). If you pass ECR, you've missed the turn. Take Camaritas as far as it will go. It will dead end into the right place. Come in through the Camaritas Street entrance to the south parking lot. This is a neighborhood park so do not be alarmed of it starts to look like you are driving into a residential area. This is the quiet side of the park. However, there are a couple of baseball diamonds, tennis & basketball courts, restrooms on the north end by the snack bar. Not sure if the snack bar will be open. Best to bring your own munchies.
Every one is welcome most especially if you are in a Vanagon or other T3/T25 based vehicles.

I am always on time. It's just everybody else who is on a different clock.
There is a very slight possibility that VOR can be held at a private yard overlooking the Bay at the pier on 18th & Illinois Street. Still negotiating with the yard operator who is concerned about liability as there are no safety rails to the water. Made a mistake of joking about driving a Syncro up the 1,000+ foot long boat ramp. These are not your regular lake boat ramps. They were used to launch liberty ships and even larger vessels. _________________ BenT |

Hey Ben Like the idea of meeting out on a pier. What the hell, we can swim if we have to. I'll be there. |

It's not exactly a pier even though they call it that. I'll take pics tomorrow and post here. It's an industrial truck yard contracted with the State. That's why the owner is concerned. Sometimes, they have vehicles there impounded by the CHP.
Anyway, I'll be chatting with the owner/operator to see if this is even possible.
DUH... I edited the title. This is VOR#12 not #11. _________________ BenT |

That last BurningVan was our first Vanagon GTG, and despite the cold we had a blast and meet a lot of really cool people. We'll be coming to VOR in our 2WD. Wherever ever 'there' ends up being. Gotta say, the old boat ramp sounds pretty cool, hope it works out.
See you there. _________________ Have fun and stay safe,

For the record, the reason Van-O-Rama was started was because of exactly that reason. Although I am a Syncro owner but have 2wd's too. Besides, not every could or want to camp out for several days to attend an event. This one of those "just show up if you feel like it with whatever you feel like driving" events. Showing up with a Vanagon always encouraged. Remember those times when the occasional Ferrari, Range Rover, Audi Quattro, or Acura NSX would be mixing it up w/ the T3's?
And before Mario says something, "guilty as charged". The organizer has been late on occasion and has been caught w/o a Vanagon on the scene. You know these darn things don't always cooperate. _________________ BenT |
