Agreed. If it WEREN'T a rust bucket I'd never let my kid drive a SC (or any kombi) as a new driver. Yeah...I drove mine in 1970 (after rolling my '65 Beetle a year earlier), but today's cars are soooooooooooooo much safer for a newbie. My 18 year old is in a Civic with ABS, air bags, belts (that kid was driving without seat belts!!!). When I drive my bus I drive very differently knowing what I know after all these years.

The boxed frame section is a too common rust issue with all buses I seen.
Apart from the bath in phosphoric acid prior the painting stage, the internals didn't get any paint or treatment and are very good in trapping mud, sand and dust that soak water everytime that section gets wet.

FIFY. I think the only places I haven't seen at least some primer on a bus is parts of the ceiling, inside completely sealed sections (think "doglegs") and between spotwelded panels. Not that completely submerging the shell is foolproof. But it is better than nothing.

Thanks Jerry!

Looks like Facebook jacked up all my links to the pictures in my previous posts. I'll upload them to thesamba from now on.

But for those who'd like to check out those pics I've posted them all up on my Facebook page, Hamburg Metal Repair and Refinishing found at this link:

Gallery space is not an issue as the classifieds uses far more.

Good to know, but still was trying to use someone else's space. That didn't workout too well in the long run.

Thanks for this awesome website Everett. Cool
