This past Sunday, July 2nd, 2017, I finally had my new wheels & tires setup all together, such that I could do the new sneakers changeover for the Creeky '69 Bug. What were on there were some refinished 14" Minilite-style Western alloys, with some fat BFG radials. The new setup are a set of 4.5" wide, ET46, refinished OEM VW wheels (powdercoated red), a set of "Deano's Smoothie Rings" (powdercoated white; more info: https://www.deanosvw.com/ ), some "Taiwan special" chrome dome hub caps, and some 6.00x15 "Royalton" wide whites, purchased from Lucas Automotive in Long Beach, CA (plus, expert mounting & balancing by my favorite local garage, Stony Creek Auto in Branford, CT). Enjoying the change!

Thanks EA812--you are right. And I'm waiting on some tune-up parts right now which hopefully will restore that original pep & gas mileage, since I basically haven't touched ANY of that stuff for the past couple of years (and probably a good 5,000 or so total miles accumulated). And I think you saw my recent Facebook post about that very exciting restored OEM Bosch distributor that I'm also in the process of acquiring!

Thank you very much Buggeee! I am hoping to do a lot more driving with the Creeky Bug this summer! _________________ Stock Steve

Did a little bit of pleasant local driving with the Creeky '69 Bug, on Sunday evening, July 2nd, 2017, following installation of the new set of sneaks... First was a photo-op in downtown Guilford, CT, in front of historic Page's Hardware Store, and then a stop for some gas at the Leetes Island Road Mobil right by the highway, in Branford, CT...

Creeky in the snow, Saturday, March 2, 2019...
I have enjoyed having the Creeky Bug outside in the driveway, ready for me to drive at a moment's notice, thru this winter of 2018-2019, and for the most part it has been possible (either on very dry roads or after some good rains to wash salt away). Come March, now, however, we have been getting some substantial snow in Southern Connecticut. Hopefully we start the swing into Spring very soon now. Clocks springing forward this coming weekend will also be a nice psychological boost, with more usable sunlight in the afternoon...

Put new (actually nice shape oldies, purchased a couple years ago from a very good Samba seller) chrome outlet pipes onto my "BugPipes" header system, and then a little pleasure drive over to the next town over for a little shopping.
Oh, and finally put the stock wheels back on (for the time being anyway), with your basic 165R15 skinny whitewall radials. The previous Italian alloys are now for sale (check my classified ads), and the fat white letter tires got moved to a different set of wheels...
All pictures from this past Sunday, March 17th, 2019--a.k.a. St. Patrick's Day!

This is a copy & paste from the China-repro 16" Pre-A wheels thread ( https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=660435 ) update that I just posted today--adding it here since it pertains to the Creeky Bug as well!
First attempted fitment of the red China-repro (not "Red-China repro," LOL) 16" Pre-A wheels and knobbies was Friday, May 10th, 2019. I wanted to try them out on the Creeky '69 Bug first, since I felt they kind of fit his gnarly character. I used some 4-to-5 bolt adapters at all four corners, and also had to use some 3/8" spacers at the front, to clear the disk brake calipers (the car has Karmann Ghia disk brakes in front fitted). These pictures are from first-bolt-on, in the garage, and then rolled outside for one quick shot with the '70 Bug nearby for comparison...

Beautiful weather around here on Saturday, May 18th, 2019, so had to put the top down on the Creeky Bug to take it over to the other side of Branford, CT, to meet up with my old buddy Bill, who runs some great veterans-oriented car shows in our area, and is very committed to veterans causes in general. I had some goodie bag items to donate for a couple of his shows (some imprinted items for my hobby project Shoreline Antique Auto Connection), and so we met up at a local restaurant where a car & bike show were going on. Bill was very gracious to pose for a photo with the Bug. Thanks for all you do, Bill!
Picture from when I got home a little while later, around 7:30pm or so. Love how the days get longer in the summer...

Beautiful evening to get out to North Haven, CT, on the early evening of Memorial Day, May 25th, 2019. A great group of local car enthusiasts, "The DooWop Cruisers" car club of North Haven runs these cruise nights on Monday nights in the summer, at the North Haven shopping plaza on Washington Avenue in town. I had a chance on Memorial Day to get over there with the Bug and had a great time. The guy with the red shirt posing with me is a fellow old car nut, John from Branford, and John's wife Cheryl took the picture (thanks again Cheryl!). Cheryl is also a Bug driver, and owns a beautiful blue '66 Bug--I will follow up with another picture...
NOTE: New repro headlight rings and repro headlight stone guards also finally in place.

Posted a picture of me and John from my town (Branford) at the North Haven, CT cruise night on Monday evening, May 27th, 2019 (Memorial Day), that was taken by John's wife Cheryl, and realized I needed to post a picture of Cheryl & John's cars too--especially since Cheryl's is a VW! The blue '66 is Cheryl's pride 'n joy, and the red hot rod '74 Nova is John's! Two really nice folks! A picture of them with the Creeky Bug is also added here for good measure!

Drove in to New Haven yesterday afternoon (Sunday, 6/9/2019) to mail some stuff at the main post office that’s located right near the big New Haven (CT) IKEA store (IKEA’s campus incorporates the historic old Armstrong Rubber building, that is considered an architectural treasure of New Haven—although it does not appear that IKEA is actually doing anything with it—other than hanging big “sale” banners on it that are visible from the highway--even though they’ve had to have been there now at least 10 or 15 years).
Top got put up yesterday, because I'm Creeky commuting this week, while my Subaru is in the shop for some elective maintenance & repairs--and it's going to rain this week, so, 'nuff said (fresh Rain-X too, of course!)...
MORE INFO: Article from just last year—interesting: https://www.dezeen.com/2018/04/26/brutalist-marcel...otel-ikea/ ... And from some further google checking, it appears IKEA New Haven first opened its doors in 2004. _________________ Stock Steve

Rainy season returns to Southern Connecticut... Coincidentally with my need to commute in the Creeky Bug this week with my Subaru being in the shop. Couple pictures from yesterday evening's (Monday, June 10th) drive home (I-95 northbound approaching the Q-Bridge in New Have, and a Staples stop in Branford), and this morning's (Tuesday, June 11th) drive in to work gas-up stop in West Haven, CT (southbound I-95 service plaza)... Bug's running good! Rain-X is working great! Ha ha!

The '03 LeSabre that my daughter drives had to go into the shop unexpectedly--thankfully Sarah knows how to drive manual, so she was able to jump into my Subaru, to get to all her jobs. That means that Creeky Bug once again becomes *my* go-to! I was out and about to New Haven and back with it yesterday (7/5/2019), and then a gas-up stop at the Branford (CT) Leetes Island Road Mobil station by the highway. Out and about getting some stuff done today as well. Running good! Happy Saturday...

I delivered the car to the new owner's home, a few towns away in Connecticut, on Sunday morning, October 20th, 2019. It had become clear that it was time to pass the car along to another enthusiast, who may have some vision for it and energy to pursue that vision. End of the story for now, but we are friends with the new owner, and will be eager to see what develops in the future. It was a fun nine or so years! Onward and upward!

Thanks Steve for sharing your adventures with Creeky! I always looked forward to your posts and, I'm sure others will also miss your posts with Creeky!
Maybe the new owner will continue this thread, and keep the adventures of Creeky going? _________________ 75 model 110 (Basic Bug) - Project Daily Driver |
