Has anyone done this?
I am asking this for my friend who has a vanagon with auto tranny. He needs to have the tranny rebuilt so I suggested him why not add a peloquin while at it.
However, will it be as good as adding one in manual? I love my peloquin in my manual tranny. I would like him to experience the same when he is spending about 1300 more on the rebuit
Could not find any report on this on search... _________________ 90 westy 2wd w/ TBD |

I'm sure I'll regret not having done this once the cc bill is paid off for my auto rebuild. Don't see why it would be less effective than a manual. Maybe better with the torque multiplication effect (trying to sound like I know what I'm talking about ). |

I know some one who has it in his automatic along with a 3.27 ratio R&P (I think.)
He reports it works fine. No extra noise. Can not notice it while driving. Hooks up just like you would expect it to.
No complaints.
It works.
He lives in San Diego, if you ever wanted to try it. _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

I have one. I like it. On dirt roads both tires hook up and push straight on down the road. In the rain, on the pavement, I can get on the gas going around a corner and feel it working to push through the corner instead of spinning around on me. Well occasionally the back end will step out a bit but that's my fault for trying to make it. I also have a 2.4wbx driving it so it's nice to have the extra traction with the extra power. I'm not a huge fan of it in the snow, both tires spin once it loses traction, but it's still way better than when I had the regular diff.
So are they still $1300? The guys at the shop were telling me that they have come down in price since I got mine. I thought they said it was around $1000 these days. Not that that's chump change or anything. _________________ '88 SCA High/Pop-top Syncro camper

German Transaxle also sells Peloquin for auto tranny at about same price.
I'm getting one installed in the next weeks.

I talked to Daryl from AA Transaxle about if there will ever be a locker option for an auto and he said no way. But they do offer a limited slip diff for the automatic for about the same price as GW. _________________ '85 Syncro Westy |

I am in the shopping around stage of a new transmission. I currently have an auto, and I can't decide if I should just do a rebuild with a Peliquin, swap over to a manual with a peliquin (perhaps also a locker?), or a subaru 5 speed once the smart guys have that down and are offering a kit.
I really want more traction... _________________ 1985 Wolfsburg Weekender- 2.5L Subie Power

WhiteH2O, your list of options should also include a syncro transmission. Then you can have a locking diff plus a granny gear. I would think that could be had for less than the Subaru 5 speed.
I'm there with you. _________________ '85 Syncro Westy |

Yep, a Syncro transmission is also on that list, forgot about that one.
I think the cost of each is directly correlated to how good each option is. I guess the big question is: how much do I want to spend. _________________ 1985 Wolfsburg Weekender- 2.5L Subie Power
