You can still get them for $29.99....... + tax + any shipping.
Buy two and get above $49 and get free shipping if you care to. _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

The fabric in these is not UV resistant, so if you expect to be using yours a lot or leaving it up for extended periods you will want to treat it with some type of UV coating. I used mine as a sunshade while redoing my roof last summer and the fabric shredded from the exposure. |

I set mine up in the yard (free standing without the van) and the breeze knocked it down several times. Mine might just be a bad one but the problem with it is that the pockets on the corners which are to secure the "X" cross pieces which keep the top upright are not at all deep enough. They are cut at an angle that allows the strut to pop right out with any appreciable wind. I suppose that I could sew proper cups in them but all in all not such a great purchase. I hope others are designed properly so you don't get the same results. |

I set up my awning to test today. I put it together in a few minutes by myself.
You MUST tie the first flexible cross piece in the middle, otherwise it will flop away. Then put the other one in and tie it in the middle too.
Then be sure to attach the sewn on velcro straps too before you move the awning to the van.
Clip the awning to the rain gutter using plastic clamps from Walmart or Big Lots or Harbor Freight, as shown. The rest is easy.
NOTE: The awning bows. There is a gap between the rain gutter and awning.
Shameless plug: See the Engel MT35 in the below picture? I still have 2 to sell for $500 each.
Rear clamp
Front clamp. I would move the whole thing forward so I could open the door next time.
As noted above, the corner pockets are not so great. That is why you need to be sure to attach the velcros to hole the cross members in place.
The poles are kind of short at about 5 feet. I will try my Coleman poles from my $40 Awning next time.

Thankfully the guy lines are pre-installed. They have nice little plastic things to tighten the guy line. No taunt line hitch required.

I have added an inexpensive blue tarp to the mix now too.
Not for a floor, but rather for more shade.
There is ALWAYS one corner that is sun, no matter what awning you have.
So I use the eyelets and more clamps and parachute cord and tent pegs and and and you get a nice lean to like shade added.
I may use left over poles next time as an experiment, too.
Easy peexy.....glad you like the awning.
If it is windy I use my Bus Depot EZAwning, but it is a heavy sob pita to put up.....

How are these awnings holding up? Wearing well?
It seems some aren't using the guy ropes. Do the poles stake into the ground or do folks somehow weigh them down? (I've seen jugs of water used as weights for similar applications)
Along the lines of sewing in magnets, would sewing in a piece of EMT or similar to the hem at gutter be possible? To help keep the fabric from bowing?
Poles are only 5' long?
Thanks for posting the pics!
Neil. (who may just go with a 4 pole "drive away" type canopy but likes the portability of this model) _________________ 1981 Westy DIY 15º ABA

The support poles look like they have holes that they could be staked to the ground. I doubt that would be enough in even a light wind. The guy ropes should be necessary. The one picture you see here that doesn't have the guy ropes set up was from r39o. In that picture he is just test fitting it. I just bought one of these last night. |

Comes with stakes and 5' poles with two guide ropes per corner,I used only one in some windy conditions... Worked just fine. I utilized the van for the other side. Closed front door on the guide ropes, on the hatch I just tied the ropes the furthest lift shock... In a huge gust it was going no where. _________________ Don't harsh my mellow...

Thanks people. I may end up getting something like this:
http://www.quikshade.com/products/187-st100-blue.html
but the Wallyworld awning looks great for the price.

That is a HUGE / Heavy package.
The awning this thread is about came from K-Mart, btw and not Wallyworld. _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

Ah. K-Mart. I'm pretty sure we don't have any more K-marts up here so I tend to think "Walmart".
Tis heavy yes, and relatively large, but AFAIK, one can put a bug screen on it. And of course, drive away from it easily. Thread hijack off.
The K-mart offering looks quite useful too. I'm torn. _________________ 1981 Westy DIY 15º ABA

I have both. My canopy is this one. It is Weighs less than ten pounds. It is nice because it comes with a side wall. I would camp with both of them. The canopy works well over a picnic table or somewhere you can't put stakes in the ground like a concrete pad. There are uses for both. |
