So my pal drives a 66 double cab and he is always looking for any bus he could find as long as if it a splity. I guy at a gas station saw him and said that his friends dad had an ol VW bus in his garage that has been forgotten about due to this man was a hoarder. He went to see the bus and to his dismay it was a baywindow camper. That's when he rememberd that I always wanted a high top and May wife was into the VW camping scene. He called ma and said this guy has a bus and he wants $600 for it. I ran into the house and told my wife about the bus. I have the coolest wife in the world one she puts up with a lot of my crap and my VW addiction. She immediately jumped on board and made plans to go see the bus the next day. The bus was in Dinuba CA just a short drive away. The man met us out side and told us to go to the garage and never the front door. The lock was broke so he decided to keep a live rattle snake by the door in case any one broke in. The bus was in a garage so full of junk, cat shit, dead cats, dead rats and all the belongings from his recently past away wife. The bus sat on all four flat and cracked tires. Needless to say before we even dug it out of the garage the $600 had already changed hands. The next day my friends met me at his house and with a U Hall trailer, an air pump and some muscle the bus was back at my house. At home I found that the bus was all sealed but the top air vent was removed. It seemed cats jumped into the bus and had no way out.
Over the next few weeks I removed a fair share of cat crap, dead cats dead kittens, Mexican porn, crack pipes and a huge pair of panties. Also found in the attic was at least 50 banck statements from the 1980s. I had to put on my hazmat gear and removed all the enterior. Sad I had to remove the enterior due to saturation in ct urine. The wheels had to be cut off due to rust from cat urine. The neat part was under the wood floor I found change from the 60s and a naked lady ink pin.
Due to the bright green inside the bus was called the Glow worm. The bus is now cat free, stink free and has a camper kit ready to camp. Yup the glow worm has been all over the state and even one 1st place at the Madera spring fling. The Glow worm has been to Sacramento Bugorama and plans to hit El prado next month. Now I found out that it's a Wild Westerner and that even makes it better. Now who wants to help me remove this crap white paint?

Hi gang, I'm back with an update on my progress for those who are interested!
Custom ordered interior arrived a couple weeks ago so now I'm on the home stretch to finishing things up. Also managed to log .4 miles to make sure it actually shifts gears etc. No oil leaks which is always a good thing.

Bill, I really like your new logo, if you are going to make these up as stickers I need a couple and would be happy to contribute some $ to offset the cost.

Congrats to Bustedtype2 on his recent fine, love the story on how he found it, gotta like it!

So here are a few photos, I strayed from the factory black, forgive me everyone, but I couldn't help myself Very Happy

Wow! That looks AWESOME! I forgive you for straying from the factory black. Smile

I might have to steal elements from you if/when I ever get to freshening up the interior of mine. Well done.

Is this the correct instrument cluster arrangement for a WW?

On mine, the grey middle area is not present in the left pod. Its just black. Though it otherwise is similar. Maybe my fuel guage is smaller, too.

Speedo does have the grey middle.

The right filler plate is also just black.

Hi Dave, thanks for the interior approval!

So I did change things up some on the gage cluster. Mine were as you described, but were in real bad condition. So I opted to modify and repaint things a bit to match the new dash faceplate I made. I also changed out the entire steering column to a 1977 model if you recall. That change was very beneficial in the functionality of things, big improvement over the original and didn't really impact the overall appearance much. I will upload more photos in a couple weeks when I finish the interior.

I hope to have it out for its first real shake down drive end of June, I can't wait!!!!!!

John,
Looking good. I like the blue accent for the interior. I'm excited to see it in person.

The blue of the seats and trim looks great against the green, nicely done. Lovely looking bus!

As promised a Wild Westerner Certification Decal.

The member number is your Wild Westerner VIN number and will be added by hand as each member requests a decal.

The decals are 3" x 4" ovals I'm thinking they need to be located by the m-code plate or do you think on the windshield ?

Tell me your thoughts.

I think that if I had a Wild Westerner I would want one! I think they'd be great right on the windshield.

Looks great!

Two suggestions:

Maybe 3 per bus? One on the windshield, one on the back window, and one by M-plate. May help preserve at least one from fading, as well as generally bring a little more awareness by catching people's eye.

I like the numbering convention. Can that line be centered?

Any other suggestions ?

Looks like last 4 of VIN. On the dash or by the engine.

2232 is the first 4 digits of the WWs and the remaining numbers of yor vins will be added by hand. Centering the member no. won't work.

John, your bus looks awesome. I was jealous of Bills and Daves buses but they're far enough away that I didn't have to worry about running into them at a show in my beat up WW. Very Happy

Bill, I love the sticker. I'd like to order 4 when they're available.

Good news is I finally heard my bus run for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Bad news is my mechanic left for Germany before he could do any adjustments and he'll be gone for 6 weeks. Sad
