Does anyone have a picture of a buggy that was first painted in the main base color then the body is hung so the rear end is down, excess paint in a different color is applied to the leading edges and allowed to run.

I saw one in Hot VW's a long time ago, I think it had a white base with purple paint running towards the rear.,

Sounds more like something you would want to crate design with tape and firsket and use air brush..... To me its just another creative use of masking skills and small spray gun and colors...

Sounds like my typical paint job. All leading edges have runs on them, just in the same color. Laughing

The whole point is it is totally random. It is not supposed to be a planned design.

I think he is running up a post count. I was making fun of my own paint jobs.

I remember the paint job you are describing and it was different. I have never seen it done since that article. Should not be hard to do with the limiting factor being the height it wuld take in a garage to do it in.

Yes it was different and looked good. Do you still have the article? A friend just bought a buggy that is in need of paint. I want to do this to it but the owner cannot picture the end result and is a little reluctant. I am looking for a picture to show him.

I very well may, I have a lot of old HVW&db mags. The problem is it takes a good while to review them to find it and I have 20 days to build my buggy for MOTB event. After that, I am more than willing to do the research.

This paint style was popular in the Eighties & Nineties in the Cal-Look/New Wave scene...

Grab copies of Hot VW's / VW Trends (remember them?) from this period & there will be plenty of ideas.

Okay Dan... at the risk of exposing the super-genius brain that I am, have you considered test painting a used body panel with some spray cans to show your friend/client an example of exactly what you're suggesting? Designers like me do this exact thing regularly... pictures only tell part of the story.

Sorry no spare body to do. I have no concerns about my ability to do it. Just want him to see the look. All I am asking is if someone has the picture. Nothing else.

Interesting but they have 2 basic mistakes. Way too much paint/ink and going the wrong direction.

Thanks for the picture but you would have to have seen the buggy that appeared in hot VWs to fully understand.
