I am considering what my "performance" options are for mufflers for my Type3. I am gonna do a Megasquirt upgrade relatively soon and I want a little more free flowing muffler then stock.

Anyone who has the Over the top Muffler from ISP West, what are your opinions of this option? Do you like it? How much better do you think it flows from stock?

I would love to get the new CSP Python System, cuz it is available in multiple diameters, but it is 5 times the cost.......
Thanks guys.

I have the OTT on my square with a 1904 w/ stock heads that are ported. The fit was excellent. I bought the black "finish". Be warned that it's not a finish, only a rust inhibitor while sitting. You have to paint/finish it yourself. I can't speak for the ceramic coating.

I suspect it flows better than stock but I've never had a stock ex on a type 3 so I'm just guessing.

For the money I'd but it again and again. I wish TMI would start making them in diff sizes for us.

You don't mention the engine size or head specs. Too big there and you're better off spending the $$$ on a bigger dia. system.

The only thing wrong i can see it the cheap thin flanges that bend pretty easily, of course my other exhausts are A1 and 4-5 times the cost.
Mine never fit quite right on my 1600 or 1904, i still have to put a C clamp on the tubes to align with the heat exchangers.

I like the sound too, i'm still hoping for a vintage speed exhaust to be produced for the type 3 in the near future.

Good point W1K1.... I forgot to mention I got the flanged J-Tubes as well. The fit was nice and tight that way. I have never had any luck with slip joints outside of stock bug ex and the Vintage Speed NcDad put on his bug.

Have had the OTT muffler for about 2 years, fit pretty well except the left side heat exchanger didn't fit up at first had to persuade the pipes to come together still had a slight leak used additional clamp.Sounds ok,after being in the snow with the salt melt on the street, the ceramic coating peeled off with rust starting. FWTW the ceramic coating is not worth the cost.

Regards,Bill Smile

I used 2 coats of tremclad/rustoleum BBQ paint good for 1200F, but mine goes to sleep for those months when the city has salt on the roads.
Daily driven for the rest of the year. Smile

As for my engine, I am currently bone stock with stock Carbs. I think they are 32 Solexes. I am going to go to Megasquirt with the stock Fuel Injection plenum to keep it tidy and inside the engine bay. I also have a set of stock FI heads that I am gonna port and polish. I wanted something that would work with my stock carbs AND my future Injection setup. I am running heater boxes (stock) and I want to keep them, cuz Northern VA gets cold. I would definitely paint the heck out of them with high heat paint. Hopefully something that holds up to snow melt salt. VA salts their roads and the Notch will be a Daily driver again soon.

The BIG motor is gonna be a year away at this point. I want something to use while I work on the body and the suspension. I have my Porsche 944 brakes getting built up now.

Thanks for all you input everyone.

I am also looking at the plain black OTT for $150. It seems like just too good of deal to even worry about.

Its only about as expensive as a really big night of eatin' and drinkin'!

Have the ott from ISP agree on the ceramic coating it didi not hold up well spent the extra on flanged j tubes was an easy direct bolt on nice install have had mine 2 years the ceramic shows its age especially where road dirt media blasts it within the first few months have about 8k miles on mine think its par for the course. Fits excellent no other (issues running a 2110 )
