Hello I am having a bit of trouble with my beetle just rebuilt engine fro av1300 to a 1600 the problem is running rough and the exhaust is boiling hot on the left and a lot cooler on the right .I have checked the tappets all ok have done a compression test all are about the same 110 new leads and plugs fitted point ok new dizzy cap rotor arm any idea's will be most welcome thanx |

you have a fresh rebuilt and only have 110 psi?? |

Make sure you have the plug wires running to the right cylinder. Check for vacuum leaks.

Maybe it's TOO new & rings aren't well seated yet. At 110, don't worry about it.
Re the heat riser: the one to the right (at least on mine) will be searing hot and the left one, while hot, isn't nearly as bad. Yours is probably OK.
Put a timing light on it & see how it reads.
Engine may be rebuilt, but if carb's dirty it'll run like crap. _________________ jlex.

There was a recent post and have had similar experience - check for vac leaks at the cool side. INtake boots, manifold to head. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1914.

and dont freak on the compression until you get a few miles on it. Rings can take 500-1000 miles to really seat well. I just did new pistons and cylinders on a 1600 and its in the same neighborhood, only have driven it a couple miles though. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1914.
