Hey,

The PO filled in the holes for the molding clips by denting in the hole areas, then filling the dents with body filler. Was wondering if anyone knows of a source for molding that's the same, or similar, to factory but has the pressure sensitive tape on the back side. Also wondering if the back of the original style molding would support the use of the double sided press sens tape.

It's for a satin black lowered cruiser and not for an original resto so as long as its close to it that'll be cool.

Anyone looked and found anything like this?

double sided tape on the original moulding should hold. Ensure surfaces are clean, grease free and dry and you should be good to go

i think a 3m double sided tape would work fine for an original molding just get the 3/8" or the 1/2" and stick it on to the back side, trim off the excess with a fresh razor blade.

regards,
justin

I would just drill new holes like 1" over from the old ones, and use the proper clips and trim.. leave the dented in holes covered..

I was going to ask about that. I've never seen molding up close but it looked like the clips slide around from the pictures I found. I like this idea better. Only thing is, I'd be worried about drilling right into one of the filled areas. I haven't located them all yet. I've been looking at pictures to try to map these out. The car is already painted. The magnet trick isn't working very well. I'll have to come up with a way to positively identify the mud filled areas.

Thanks Hank

If the magnet trick doesn't work, you have lots of filler.

Or ... a funky magnet.

LOL! Actually, magnet was on piece of metal I welded. Fail. Got a good magnet now. Holes located.

But,....MRJEL's peel and stick looks interesting. I assume that's the same shape as the stock molding?

You can actually find that type of trim in most any size and style you wish. In fact, I just removed some from a 73 last week. I used my stud welder and plugged the holes on that one, going with the naked look.

Check at some of the FLAPS near you. I remember seeing some there.
