ok i was truckin down the road today in my bus and saw an early 70's?? bug sitting on the side of the road that wasnt there last night at midnight. and it had causght on fire some time in the last 24 hours, so i stopped and looked at it, the carb was melted and the distributor cap was toast, pretty much the top half of the engine was cooked and the decklif was burnt to heck. but the rest of the car was in really solid shape, no headliner, ok seats, good paint on rest of car, looks to me like a little wire patching and a new engine and fuel lines would put it back on th road. just wondering if anyone would take a shot at helping me figure out what to offer. i left a note on the car for the owner to call me if they didnt want to keep the car. any ideas on what to offer on it??? _________________ 1978 bus. 2.0 f.i. manual trans. Not much, that burnt smell is very hard to get rid of, and the heat may have weakened the metal, structurally. Jeremy |

My type 1 caught on fire. No big deal the old cloth fuel lines broke and as I stepped on the accelerator it would throw gas on the hot engine and would shoot flames out the deck lid, cool to see in your rear view mirror. NOT!!!!!!
I replaced the dist cap, rotor, spark plug lines and fuel lines. I drove it for another two years no problem.
Why not pick it up. _________________ 1979 Bay & 1978 II Westy Current Owner, 1963 Beetle & 1972 Beetle & 1976 SquareBack (Sold) & 1976 Westy (Wrecked) & 1978 Bay (Sold to pay for Wedding) |
