Hi- After installing a new rubber steering coupler, I also decided to replace the leaky steering gearbox (I did reinstall horn gound wire). After putting things back together, I noticed that the bolt that holds the bottom flange to the gearbox shaft was on the left side, bolt head up. Before disassembly, that bolt was on the right, nut side up. Does this matter? The tires are in a straight, centered position and so is the steering wheel. Any advice is appreciated!

P.S. The two flanges on either side of the coupler are perpendicular to each other, two bolts facing one way, two the other way... so I got that right.[img][/img]

Q: What's wrong with this picture?
A: No dirt on finger or under fingrnail. A professional model was used to point at bolt!

Not to mention the metal splinters after having to cut those 40 year old bolts with a motor tool. Just my 2 cents......

Cracking the nuts loose was the worst part, soaked in PB Blaster for a week, then use hammer and impact socket, finally breaker bar.

Replaced the steering coupler with Febi brand German made.

Replaced mine a few months ago. Used new stainless bolts and nuts and greased the threads for next time.
