I've spent the last couple of days educating myself on rebuilding my axles with Lobro joints. After pulling my axles yesterday I've run in to what I think is a problem.

Left side appears to be original. Had the washers on the axle side that Bentley apparently says leave out on the rebuild. Length is 21 3/4.

Right side is a reman from Napa. Lobro joints but the axle is straight and not tapered. Length is 21 1/4. The axle is also straight with no flared end to seat the CV joint on.

Is there anyway to tell if the Napa reman axle is OEM or China? Are the 1986 and later axles straight instead of tapered?

OEM Axle is on top. NAPA Reman is on the bottom.

*** I have a feeling the NAPA might be an auto trans axle. Sad ***

I've gotten wrong axles in a napa box before, but thats on Mk1 and mk2 vw's... I'd be taking that one back.

I did try a set of napa's on my westy, we shall see how long they last.

I've had good life span on napa remans, but getting the correct thing sometimes can be a battle.

The upper one may be an axle for a bay window bus, don't know when they made the change to the style without the shoulder, maybe in 1980 with the introduction of the Vanagon.

No option to take it back. It's been on my van for 4-5 years.
