Stupid should hurt. There are plenty of scams and it's the buyer's job to do the research before handing over money.

Wow, Glenn. Next, you'll tell me that Google is your research tool of choice?
Who vets the information? Ebay Dude selling the clone 'Manx #18' was told that it's a Manx, so it MUST be a real Manx then, right?

You knew it was a fake, because you educated yourself. Buyers should educate them self before spending money.

Just like people that buy GEX engines have no one to blame but them selves.

Maybe you missed this in my signature "You may not get what you pay for, but you always pay for what you get".

Honestly some of you are acting as vigilantes and bullies. I understand trying to correct incorrect information. Contacting the seller is the 1st move. Getting the response you do means reporting it to ebay. By organizing a campaign to intimidate the seller you acted as a mod of bullies.

If the Meyers value their IP (intellectual property) they need to actively protect it just like VWoA, Disney and Apple.

There's a difference between being passionate and being an extremest. Next you'll be talking chainsaws to Manx Clones since they are fakes.

As an "outsider" some of you don't know where the line is. Why not explain what has happened and then watch their face as they read what you've done.

The Kool-Aid (do i need to get permission to use that trademark?) is clouding your judgement.

Congratulations, Glenn... You just slandered/defamed Kool-Aid. Laughing

People have been incorrectly using the term 'drank the Kool-Aid' since the Jim Jones / Guyana incident in '78... Their drink mix of choice was cyanide dosed grape Flavor-Aid. I'm a big history fan. Few seem learn from history.

But the Meyers are unfortunately learning from history again. Contacting Ebay to notify the auction site of fraudulent ads is proper. Vigilante justice is not called for - it's not my preferred method. A group of people contacting Ebay over an erroneous ad is not mob justice, as long as it's kept on a professional, non-personal level.

I currently have what appears to be a Rascal buggy; no Manx products in my current garage. But I do feel that correction of the Seller is required when Bruce (or anyone's name, for that matter) did the work & then had someone riding on their coattails & profiting off of those efforts.

I'd do the same thing if I knew that someone was profiting off of Mr. 010's efforts. It's a principle that I've operated business on - treating people the way I'd hope to be treated. It's gotten me screwed over a couple times, but I brushed it off.

Like I said... ask a someone not involved to review and watch the look on their face as the see how you reacted.

You're so passionate about it you're a blinded by the light.

Tom... don't get me started.

No, but I read what he posted. He's like the kid who said "the Emperor has no clothes.".

Think what you may, but you can''t use the Samba to organize a mob mentality against someone.

This is over... move on.

Topic Rules:
1) Post links to ads/auctions that claim to be genuine Bruce Myers products.
2) Explain why they are fake.
3) Discuss if you agree or disagree
4) Do not engage in discussions on how to go after the person.

Somehow the Split bug people are able to do this and i'm sure you can too.

This is not a ongoing "Whine" topic.

Let's give the members a place to learn why something is a fake and to avoid making a mistake. Filling the topic with useless posts will just make it harder to get the facts out.

Thank You.

If you don't like it... contact me via PM to discuss. You can also contact the site owner who has the final decision.

Well, it is all fun and games until someone gets hurt.

Back to my last question, does Bruce or Winnie have children to pass the business along to?

Yes, they both have children however I don't know if they are in line to inherit the company.

FYI, there was a discussion about the Manx Club Board taking over and running Meyers Manx Inc. A few years ago the club and Meyers Manx Inc. separated. They are two different entities. One exists because of the other but doesn't have a business interest in the company.

Someone asked about a Lawyer owning a buggy, Mark Geragos (OJ's trial) has an original Monocoque Manx in Los Angeles.
There was a article about it being found in a garage being stored there.
This was from 2006 in the Manx Mania Volume VII, No.4 in the Manx Mail section.

Hey Chris,

Sorry for the loss of your friend. I only started corresponding with him a few months before his untimely death. he was a great guy from all i could tell. i contacted him for rights to make prints of a couple of his designs for a military car show i was putting together. he was very enthusiastic and offered to send his actual prints to me instead. i got the feeling that was the kind of guy he was. but no, i didnt realize my avatar was part of one of his designs. guess thats why i liked it.. i love his work.

and i agree with the retooling of badges etc... that is definitely an issue that should be stopped and pursued by manx inc. i just had an issue with going after people for misrepresenting. informing them of their mistake i completely understand and would do myself. i just wouldnt go further as it isnt my place to do so.

just wanted to clarify.

Edited to ad this. For every watch and sticker made and sold with the logo on it, is profit lost for the company.

Only if the company is selling watches and stickers. Which they are not.

On any given Sunday, 100's of flea markets across the country have many sellers of non licensed hat pins, watches etc. Doesn't make it right, but it is a fact of life.

if "Meyers Manx" is a registered trademark, then it should be listed in ebays Vero program. Then Bruce and Winnie could patrol and protect the gift they have brought to the free world.

Should they choose not to, then the only people who are getting hurt are the passionate ones trying to big brother the Manx name.

(I wish mine was a real Manx, but alas.. it is not)

I saw a posting about this buggy on this forum, when the seller was claiming it was an authentic Meyers Manx.

Its the yellow one in Arizona. The same ebayer is the one that was selling the "Real Meyers Manx Dune Buggy Body" on page 2 of this topic. His ebay user id is; lillydog1212

The seller doesn't say its a manx this time, however you can still see the Manx Logo on the back of the buggy, and a few people will notice it and that will most likely drive the price up.

I wouldn't doubt it, if the seller when asked about it would claim it was an authentic manx.

He put a top on it, and cropped some of the pics, probably trying to hide it a little better.

Take a look @ the ebay ad.

It is ebay item Item number:251176738946

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=251176738946

I only know it because I have been looking @ this forum.

I am trying to get a buggy myself, have been looking this entire year and still haven't found one I like. Living in Colorado I am pretty limited on inventory.

...still has the Manx number badge on dash.

I wouldn't be surprised if seller offers it with Manx #18 certificate upon sale... DB seller.

So does someone need to contact the seller of that buggy?

Take a look at this "Manx Style" buggy.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1974-VW-Manx-Style-...5898a4874f

Will California DMV have an issues with the vin plate?
