Purpose of this thread.

Is it now?

Hi there,
As a sign guy who deals with copyrighted items all day, every day, your selling of these decals is a direct copyright violation. Regardless of whether Meyers sold stickers initially (which they did in the early days)the Manx logo and typeface is copyrighted. Reproducing the image is an infringement on that copyright and could quite easily be pursued by the Meyers as a company. Be prepared; all the Manx items for sale on eBay are now under scrutiny by numerous people. It's just a matter of time before the lawyers are called in and the cease and desist letters go out.

We'll see what transpires. Probably nothing, but hey, it doesn't hurt to try.

I've sent an email to Winnie Meyers in the past but the seller didn't stop selling....

Sellers e-mail [email protected]

Luckely then this post came

Somehow the Split bug people are able to do this and i'm sure you can too.

This is not a ongoing "Whine" topic.

Thank You.

Still I think some you guys are far to 'enthusiastic' on chasing 'frauds'. Not everybody reads al the forums and to them a buggy is a manx just as a search engine is Google... just my $ 0,02

"...never download a movie? Never copied a CD of your favorite artist. Did you guys never bought a replica handbag or t-shirt while on holiday."

For me, it's an honest 'NO' on points mentioned above.

I'd offer you the comment & perspective that the old saying 'Caveat Emptor' applies when buying something. People should do their research, instead of going on hearsay. And the good folks of the Samba are merely taking the time to point out the shady characters selling goods that are misrepresented. Jousting windmills, you say? Negative. Do you turn away advice/counsel on a purchase if a knowledgeable friend/acquaintance is trying to protect you from making a bad buy? Probably not.

"Great thing is the actual cork is still there."

For a potential buyer, can one be assured that this is the original 'actual cork' for this patina'd gas can? How can one be certain that they're not getting snookered by a faux cork? Think

Ok I understand what you're saying and I respect that. But especially on the first page in kinda looked like a witch hunt. People contacting sellers and all...

But if education is the purpose of this topic I stand corrected! Embarassed

As for my own adds, I try to tell everything as I think it is. If it's not the original cork on there, it still looks like an old patina cork. I indeed can not guarantee it as old as the fuel canister

Most people will listen to you when you contact them.
I send email almost daily to folks who have buggies incorrectly named, listed for sale, whatever...

I usually send the a couple of links and they respond nicely. Laughing

accept anything but thier own opinion. Evil or Very Mad

The owner states that this car is an original Meyers Manx in his Q and A section.
Just to be aware, this is not a Meyers Manx.

Luckily, for any of the prospective bidders, it did not sell because the reserve was above their bids.

You can ask an Ebay seller a question but when asked the seller can keep the response private, he did not. Here's a key question he was asked..

"Q: Is this a real Manx? or a clone look alike. Do you have Manx s/n plate?

A: It is a real Manx."

It is clearly not. The seller perhaps even thinks this is so... Buyers Beware.

I don't know why they 'locked' ..and then left .. the post about a bogus sale of a Manx. But the photo was of one (nice clean Manx!) that sold about the first week of Oct '13 from FL. The Ebay buyer paid $12k+ which make no sense; the buyer would wish for a $6k enema a few weeks later?

A few years ago a young, eager sucker from my area paid $10k for a 3yr old, BMW M3 in Chicago because the seller was something like .."being deported back to Ireland and cannot afford to ship the car". He got a fake copy of a title in return but there was no metal to be had. (like the seller could not get $10k in Chicago?! ..the dumb Chit)

Locked threads are often left in place so:
1. People know where to post in the future
2. To give a chance for the user to repost in the correct area, then we can remove the original topic.

Post subject: Manx on Craigslist scam warning

I don't want to post a link to one of the actual adds, but if you search for Manx on Craigslist this will probably come up as one of the links as it's posted in many different regions.

The seller is asking around $4800. If you contact her she will tell you that the buggy is out of state and has been packaged up for shipment. The price includes shipping to your house and comes with a 5 day evaluation period. You pay Google Wallet, they hold the money until you let them know it's ok to pay.

Problem is (well, one of the many) that Google Wallet does not offer this service. It's a well documented scam.

Here's the picture that's being used for the auction. I wonder if this belongs to someone here:

Saw this hadnt been reposted here after the other thread was locked. Figured it would be uselful. Ironically I was searching craigslist this morning and saw it before reading the thread here about it. too bad.. good looking buggy.

It looks like the photo they use for this scam is from an ebay listing from the end of August, where is sold for $16,200....

Here's the link. http://bit.ly/HrEVto

Simple sells.

Leaves many options for future owners to add complication.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-VINTAGE-MEYERS-MANX-D...Sand_Rails

I sent the following question:

"Do you have proof that this buggy is a real Meyers Manx and not a clone of the Meyers Manx? Like a serial number, or photo of the serial number. This body does not look like a Meyers Manx, the front fenders are too high, the rear fenders taper up and the tail section is not correct."
