It's said there were only 7,000 some convertibles made in 67. Way less than any other year since the 50's. There are 17 of 'em for sale in the samba ads right now. Always at least a few for sale, what's up?

There were just over 2,200 1967 Lincoln Continental Convertibles built (the last year of the suicide-door convertible, and the lowest production number of any of the years - one of which I owned until recently). Yet, I always see a number of them for sale at any given point in time. So what is your point? Low production numbers doesn't mean a scarcity of them on the market. Likewise, it doesn't make them worth more than others just because of the low production numbers. Condition will certainly be most important (over year) on a Kabriolett. Even with all things equal, a '67 convertible bug will not necessarily be worth more than a '60, or a '62, or a '65. It's not like we're talkin' the last year for a split window 'vette, here Smile

But they do seem to bring the higher bucks and sell quicker Smile

It's 18 of 'em as of this morning.
My point? I have none. I'm not arguing price, value, collectability or anything else, or the fact that 67's are better than 65,66 or 68's which we all know they are. Laughing
Just that it's interesting that the ratio of cars made vs cars available at any given time some 45 years later -for 67 verts is way out of wack compared to the rest of the semi-collectible vw world. I'm not doing the research and math to back that up but I think the facts would hold.
I was around in the late 70's and beyond, I do not remember people hoarding 67's as collector cars when they were relatively new. They were desired for the early look and 12v 1500 drivability, as good transportation. I remember people did stash away a lot of 78 triple white/black verts and 74 ghias seeing $$ signs Rolling Eyes

My take..... 67's were deemed special... even way back in 1967, from what I've been told...
It was a transition year. For that reason alone... people have kept them around for thier uniqueness. Are they any more special? Not really (IMO). Are they better?? Considering the improvements for the 1967 year...maybe.... They are considered one of the most refined swing axle cars for safety, and driving comfort, and have both pre 67 and post 67 body traits. It was the last year of a few things, and the first year of a few things. When properly reconditioned, or restored as some like to call it, they really dont yield any more profit when being sold, than most pre 67's Convertibles.

When comparing reconditiong a Sedan to reconditioning a Convertible, the cost is not even comparable. If you can find someone who "must have" a 1967 Beetle Convertible, then you can make a sale.

Its one of those years, >correction< .. THE YEAR, people either love or hate... The early guys dont like them because of their late traits, the late guys dont like them because of their early traits. Some just dont want to fool with trying to make one "67 " correct which can be aggrivating, but not impossible. Here is why. The Samba has opened up the world to parts and information. You can find those special parts that have been hoarded for years, and these days, especially thanks to TheSamba, it has turned some VW followers into "67" gurus in their own mind.
Some are truly genuine and know what they are refering, and some are merely posers. You can spot the posers at events when a 67 Bettle rolls in... They are usually drooling, and staring, ready to point out all the little imperfections, and incorrectness about a particular 1967 Beetle.

As for prodution figures. It really depends on your resource, as to how many both Sedan and Convertibles of any year were actually made. Sure 67's were a low production year for Convertibles, all Convertibles were. When you compare just about (not all) any year Convertibles to Sedans the ratio is comparable.

Even here on the SAMBA ... there is a Survivors registry for 1967's.
I do not see that for any other year Very Happy

I am one of the few here who can truthfully say they bought a new 1967 VW beetle. My new 67 was Savanna Beige L 620 ( 02 ) with the Deluxe interior and a optional Sapphire V radio.

To a lot of VW folks ... 67 VWs are the best ... the older features of the older VW's ( looks ) but with a dual master cylinder and 12 Volts. The 1500 SP also helps. The 1500 SP is way stronger than the 66 VW and the older 40 HP and 36 HP models.

I do not claim to be a knowledgeable expert 67 VW person ... but I do know what I like and the reactions I recieve when I drive my 67 VW from other VW lovers.

Everyone has their own definition of fat chicks. Laughing

65-66 are the skinny fat chicks.
67 is a chubby fat chick.
68 up.... considered the fat chicks.

Frankly... I like them all, but prefer 64 and older... Beetles that is Wink You can put a post 67 Beetle on a diet to look like a 65-66 pretty easy... Very Happy

I agree, lot of definitions here. In my book, fat chicks don't have the sloping 6V headlights. A transition year is the american 67 that have the 12V upright headlights, but the towel bar bumpers. By 68, the Euro bumper made them all fat. No discussion anymore.

I also dig the Obese chicks, but are we talking all supers or post-73 US models with the 100 pound VOLVO bumpers?

But those are multiple years ...
The 1967 registry is a ONE YEAR ONLY deal.

If you really think about it EVERY year is a one year only. 1967 is the just the ugliest, most expensive and most produced "one year only".

I don't usually refer to the Beetles as fat chicks but...

71-72 Super Beetle as a butherface
73-79 Super Beetle as a fat chick

Still 1000 times more charming than a Hyundai. The ugliest beetle is still a beetle. The last German standard beetle is 35 years next year. The 1948 split was only 30 when they stopped production of the standard. Time to unite.

All good points. Modern cars are for chicks. The new beetle is horrid and the Super Beetle 2.0 is even worse.

Sorry to offend the big window guys, especially the 67 types. To be honest I could care less what you have, all air cooled kick ass even obese chicks. As long as you do all your own work you get my respect. The pay to play guys who dont work on their own ride plain suck even if they have a killer car.

I guess I can talk a bit of crap as I own what would be the worst beetle out there, my grandpas all original zenith blue august 67 AUTOSTICK! I wont sell it due to the family connection and the fact it only has 7000 original miles.

Sorry for the worst hijack in history!
