desert westy, your bus has been a favorite of mine for quite some time. The way the paint fades back to Red is what I would call perfect patina. Being a 15 Window does hurt either. Beautiful |

100% agree - Perfect Patina (PP) - should be a new phrase to rate a patinaed bus.
This bus has PP plus..... _________________ My brother & I on the roof of Dad's Splitty circa 1967 - I'm the half pint with the skinny legs! |

When I bought my first bus in 1980, I joined SOTO. References were made to SWR, but the pictures were in black/white. I was working in a dental lab and used red sealing wax (from Germany) every day. I figured it was the same color. Then I saw a SWR bus. Not the same at all. _________________ Judy

This is an older photo, but sadly one of the more decent ones that I have. This is my February 1961 SWR/BG Deluxe. When I purchased the bus it was covered in primer which I removed with Motsenbocker graffiti remover to what original paint was there. I've installed an original paint front passenger door since this photo and also have an original paint decklid that I need to install. I've had this bus since January 2011. I work on it as time and funds allow which isn't very often! haha
The last few years have been fun fixing the bus up and camping with friends. I've been collecting OG parts to someday restore the bus. I'm sure some of the metal replacement will come sooner than later as the lower nose and valance needs to be done before it gets any worse. |

I tried to go back to the OG paint, but there was a reason for the primer and hippie spray paint. |

So, does anybody know what period of time they had SW Red/ Beige Grey pain and pressed bumpers? Just a couple weeks in August 1958, I think. My old 23 window was one of those...

Just found this, I was just today in the first phases of awakening my fried eggs and spam bgr sr 62 23 window from its 30 year+ slumber! The busses here are awesome ,I especially like the ones that have the glowing OG paint with the weathered thin patina. I will post pictures in the next couple days. Although mine is 85%(minus the nose)OG paint yet its got its fair share of rust,Im sure it will make a great addition to this thread. _________________ Vw collection 60 combi ,61 panel ,62 deluxe micro,82 diesel Westfalia,88 Vanagon synchro,98 Jetta tdi,11 Jetta tdi mt ,11 Jetta tdi dsg.

I often figured the right person could build a program to search for type 2 roof shape, plug it in and have it search the whole world to find that shape visible from a satellite.
Sure you'd get a few false positives. Maybe even the occasional Tempo Matador?
