|
|
I first want to thank the moderator for making Gary's "Manx on the Banx 2012" thread a sticky here on the Samba. I know that it helped get the word out and helped those who were not able to attend feel that they were part of this event.
I would ask that they make this a "sticky" or allow it to stay here instead of the "Rant" forum.
While Bruce and Winnie Meyers were here for the event we showed her this eBay listing.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/original-Meyers-Man...3a7abc8f5c
I can say that it upset both her and Bruce deeply!!! (as well as all of us who have seen it!!)
Winnie has FINALLY been able to get badges made so this kind of thing could be stopped and this is the thanks she gets. She said that she had a feeling about this certification and that it sounded fishy to begin with.
He has listed his phone number on the add and I would ask that concerned parties give him a call. I will contact him through eBay and let him know that Winnie has removed #18 from the registry.
I know that Bruce and Winnie had a great time at the MOTB and I saw Bruce recover greatly (from his recent back surgery) because of all the respect and kindness he was shown while he was here. It is sad that this listing tainted their time here at our event.
If anyone can post a picture of the "clone" from eBay here, please do. I have not been able to do so.
Vince
PS: Winnie asked me to post this since she does not get on the forums. _________________ LOOKING FOR VINTAGE MEYERS MANX STUFF!!!

Hi Vince,
I just checked out the ad myself, and decided to use the "Report This Item" option that is located at the bottom of the page. I chose the "Listing Practices" under the "Report Category" choices, and "Vehicle Misrepresentation" under both the "Reason for Report" and the "Detailed Reason" categories. Others can take the same action if they choose to do so. _________________ Gary David Holbrook

you should be careful with this kind of thing. He can come at your for slander as you published.
The issue is not yours...the issue is with the manufacturer. It is killer that the tribe is looking out for Bruce and Winne however; might bite you in the ass.
i would seriously recommend that you allow the owners of the Manx name and copywrite deal with the issue.
my humble 0.02 cents

Greg has a point and I would recommend that anything said on here be done in the proper manner.
Since he has posted his number on his eBay listing anyone can call him and ask him a question.

Also, on a Manx that early, # 18, it should have a battery well and tire well in the rear package trey/seat area, not flat like this one has. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class

From the Meyers Manx website: http://www.meyersmanx.com/realmanx.shtml
Additional Details of the Original Meyers Manx
The dashboard of the 1st floorpan model is made of ABS plastic surrounded by a steel frame inside the fiberglass hood.
The hood has a small bump on it's nose, measuring 2" wide by 2 1/2" tall. This bump wore a silver and black sticker on the first 150 kits or so into early 1967, at which time the large black and silver plastic emblem covered this bump. Meyers Manx never had any other bumps, airscoops, ridges, furrows, or anything else on their hoods..
"Bumps" on the hood.
Real Manx no "bumps".
Tail has "box" sticking out.
Real Manx has no "box".
Dash also never had that deep grain to it.

man that is one nice buggy! I don't know, I guess it could be a manx... hell everyone else that is selling one on ebay thinks they have a "real manx" as well.
I'm guessing if it got enough flags, then they might pull the add.
I feel for the poor bum that buys it, finds the samba, only to post his latest new toy and sadly finds that he purchased something that is not what it was sold to be. still a great ride, just not a the real deal.
Also, what kind of "vehicle purchase protection" comes with this buy. I'd like to see that one played out. _________________ PLM..... |

Sadly this is the kind of thinking that caused Bruce to lose his hard earned company back in 1970 when the courts would not uphold his patent on his Meyers Manx.
What you see happening now is that "Manx" is used as a generic term to describe any fiberglass bodied buggy. Just like "Kleenex" and Aspirin" which are and were a brand name. It is also one of the most valuable buggies out there since it was the original fiberglass buggy made and sold by its inventor.
Though this buggy is a "nice buggy" calling it a "Manx" cheapens the real ones! As the copies did back in the day.
Kind of like calling this an original Corvette. (It is really a ShallaVette)
It is a copy of a Corvette, not the original. (But a very nice buggy)
Winnie just started to issue these certifications recently to weed out "clones" and to help keep track of genuine original Meyers Manxes. (They are given out in order of request so this is not the 18th "Manx" made only the 18th issued a certificate) There is a fairly rigorous process to go through to get it certified and she is the only one who does it. (with Bruce's help on occasion) There were buggies that were much more like Manxes at our MOTB event that Winnie would not certify.

Bidding is going up higher... $3900 as of this point. It is a nice buggy but too bad all that BS is attached to it. Buyer beware is something these bidders don't know about. _________________ 2 fiberglass buggies, 2 non-running Corvair Sandrails!
