I can't see that you read my post form your response, even tho you quoted it.
Power ports exist at the front and can more easily be added at the back of the console into the battery box itself than running wires under the Van or under the carpet.
Then the console can more quickly be moved out of the way for access to the rear.
See my comment re lighting above.
I'm surprised to hear that you have "fully embraced the 21st Century" since we are only 13% of the way into it, not to mention the fact that this entire bbs is devoted to a rather antique vehicle. _________________ 1986 2.1L Westy 2wd Auto Trans. |

Yes I read it, and just read it again. I again Had the same thought process. I guess maybe I think oddly?
I only have a single cigarette lighter on my dash. As i read your comment about the dash power port my mind went to "that ain't no power port!
In my way of thinking a single outlet is Hardly a "power port" set up.
No offense intended.
The beauty of this unit is that only the flush mounting floor pad with the electrical feed stays on the floor. Lift one internal lever and the entire unit comes free, no wires to mess with, they are under the carpet and feed the hot shoe.
I do not desire a Rats nest of wires hanging from my Dash outlet. I much prefer them tucked away neatly and unseen in the center floor Console if possible.
I've the Multivan "weekender" setup with the German refrigerator port at the Passenger seat and the fuse under the seat. I plan to abandon that port and hardwire in my hot shoe using that as an electrical source.
I haven't a 2nd battery power source............yet.
OK........ let me clarify...... We've fully embraced 21st Century portable electronics as developed until the year 2013.

there are adapters from 12 V DC auto cig. sockets to USB - I've seen 2 USB in 1 adapter -- if that is what you're after
threads here re adding more 12 V DC auto cig. sockets to the dash
be sure to fuse anything you add
my own feeling is to stay away from power wires run in odd locations and exposed under the Van...
the console looks nice and will cost you no add'l $$ _________________ 1986 2.1L Westy 2wd Auto Trans. |

The luggage rack is painted. Without the rack installed the Van leaks in heavy rain being parked on the angle it is.
Rain is forecast for Easter so I wanted to get the top back on. This meant doing something about the sorry state of the paint under the rack.
Dull, lifeless and needing some serious TLC.
I had washed off 27 years of crud. What was left was embedded filth. I used some fine wet/dry paper in spots followed by rubbing compound to restore a shine.
In the two spots where the rear drains hit the roof the paint is damaged from years of dirt and fungus. It cleaned up well but has changed color.
I applied a heavy coat of wax and its ready for the top..........
Top ready to install, Bus Depot's bottom seal installed........
Temporarily in place for the storm........ Still needs the hardware installed.

Now to pull the pop up portion of the fiberglass top and begin the cleaning and painting process .......... but it's so much work......... |
Yeah but you have the motivating factor of seeing how nice the luggage rack turned out. Nice work man. I really like the color scheme.

Bleached the interior "fuzz" let it sit, hosed it well with hot water, repeat. All of the organic moldy stains came out.
I then sprayed on some Simple Green and scrubbed well with a brush, let it sit and hosed it out several times with hot water. Though not perfect, it's a heck of a lot cleaner than the PO left it for me! The PO was a smoker so he left me a brown coating on the interior to deal with! Ick!
EDIT:
Here is a view on how good the interior ceiling turned out. I used diluted Chlorox to kill the mold stains .......twice, rinsed well with hot water (I've devised a system in my garage for both Hot and Cold or Warm water to my hose, mostly used to not freeze the poor dog at bath time!).
I then scrubbed twice with Simple Green and rinsed very well with Hot water again. NOTE: The "white" discoloration on the Fuzz is where the padded sawhorses bore the weight of the top during painting, they have relaxed and now look normal.

did any of the fuzz come off with all the brushing?
BTW - you might try making a paste with a few boxes of baking soda and letting it sit there (keep it wet) for a few hours, then hose it off _________________ 1986 2.1L Westy 2wd Auto Trans. |
