i'm no electrical expert, but the spark plug wires may be the problem. _________________ OG JHC

With a CB radio, it could be a whole bunch of things. Most likely, your antenna is picking up electrical impulses generated from your engine at the same frequency that it recognizes incoming radio signals.
Check all your grounds, and make sure your CB is grounded to the same spot as your radio (if you have one). Your spark plug wires could be another source of noise - noise suppression cables are easy to find and install. Also make sure that your antenna cable is not grounding out anywhere. |

Antena is mounted insolated on rear bumper (4'FirestikII 900 watt)has 18 foot annenna cable to connector box mounted and grounded to firewall and power goes direct to battery. The cb unit is a cobra 75 mic . also using inline filter from goldline still have problem with hum when excelerating, no radio in car. I will try the plugswires is there a certain plug wire that needs to have the supressor |

OK - here are a few suggestions:
1) mount your antenna further away from your engine. The rear bumper is probably too close to your engine, and you're easily picking up electrical impulses.
2) Never run your CB power directly to your battery. Look under the dash (or if you have a Thing wiring diagram - even better) for your radio/accessory leads. Even if your thing never came with a radio, the leads should still be there. If there's a ground lead, use that rather than your firewall.
3) RE: noise reduction cables (plug wires) you need to change all of them. The kits are fairly do-it-yourself-ish.
Good luck. |
