Herc,
Thanks for the advise,
I will most likely have to pull the carpet to check the seals...
The bad part about the seals is that they are new ones... and once I get a good day I will be crawling all through the bug to find and fix issues that I have slowly found... Confused

Yea I would just run the brakes without changing the cylinders and see if it works. I have discs up front and changed nothing, works without a problem.

I drove it around Saturday after I finished them and they worked really well...

But it was not joyous for me like it should have... due to my 19 year old cat that pasted away on Thursday. R.I.P Oreo... He will be missed.

Another Update... More like a heads up for grinder users...
We have been reworking our building to make it easier to work in and to organize it. Especially since the bug is not taking up restate...

And in the process I had a little slip-up with the grinder....

Well, I decided to replace my CV boots due to some dry rot, but found some issues....
The car started to shutter when taking off, then it started to stick in second unless moving, all before the boot replacement. But after.. I found the CV joints were worn all around, the driver side IRS flange had some side to side and up and down movement, and the passenger side boot on the trans was FULL of gear oil...
First thought was bad seals and loose bearings, then I remembered the shifting issues...
I believe the transmission needs replaced, and if I replace the trans I think I want to go up in horse power.... maybe 1900 to 2100 cc..

Any thoughts/advice and/or great trans and engine shops/places to buy?

I am lost at the moment!!

I have a question. How do the coil overs actually ride? Do you like them?

dwiess76,
I don't know what other shocks are like, but these seem to be hard and clunk a lot over rough roads.

I have done some searching and found a 1776cc Dual Port Long Block http://vwparts.aircooled.net/Aircooled-Net-Stocker-Plus-VW-Long-Block-p/stocker-plus-long-block.htm,
a 4.375 R&P Transmission http://vwparts.aircooled.net/1971-72-Type-1-Pro-St...street.htm,
and with Dual 40IDF Webers http://vwparts.aircooled.net/CB-Performance-Dual-I...rb-kit.htm...

So anything to know/watch for/etc. for a combo like this?
Thanks for any help?

Hey All,
So a little update since my last post...
After a "Life Change", new job in a different town, and etc.
I didn't do much to the car till recently... and here is what has happened..
I rebuilt a spair transmission, swopped out the one in the car.
After the first go around.. the clutch was staying engaged... Shocked
Then hauled the car to my new home and removed the engine again to address the clutch. Took apart the clutch, checked the parts, and reassembled, it somehow is fixed.... Now the car will die if the throttle is "Massed", or hard acceration, and I have done a retime, carb adjustment, etc. and no change...

So my next step is to swop out the new carb with the old and see if that takes care of it.... fingers crossed... Rolling Eyes
I feel like I opened a "Can of Worms"...

I guess I kind of forgot about the Samba... Embarassed
So things are good! I did repair the transaxle and the carb issue. The carb I had it fixed by Volkzbitz, and it runs great! I have been enjoyed my car since! I ended up swapping out my trans with a spare, and tore down the bad one. It ended up being a broken shifting fork... but I didn't know until I took it apart. I also added a view port to the opposite side of the fill pug to help with adjudting the fork and to know the trans fluid level/color at a glance. Here are some of the photos I have of transaxle repair.
