|
|
Have a set of chrome raders. Kid sprayed his toy race car in the garage, now I have moderate to light over spray on all four. Whats the easiest way to remove the over spray from the chrome (wheels not on a car, lyin on the floor) and not damage the wheel?
Thanks in advance. _________________ MAKE FORUMS GREAT AGAIN

Yes, I have used #0000 steel wool in the past. |
Even #00 won't scratch glass or good chrome but the finer the better, it just takes a little longer. Use it with some car wax or chrome polish for added insurance. _________________ Two wrongs don't make a right...

Steel wool is ok to clean chrome once it has gotten a haze of rust or corrosion. If it isn't, and you're just taking paint off, Don't use it! Get some lacquer thinner, or a scotchbrite pad. The steel wool leaves little scratches, and will cause the chrome to dull and rust faster. |

Negative, esde!
Scotch Brite is worse than "0000" steel wool. The rating on wool denotes consistency! "00" is too coarse. Brass works really well.
There's no two scotch-brite pads alike- and you mostly certainly can scratch chrome with these. What do you have against the original poster? _________________

Not all scotch brite pads are coarser than 0000 steel wool, my mistake for not specifying which one I would use. I have some grey and light grey ones that are very fine and made for finish polishing. Personally I would choose them over 0000 steel wool any day. Especially when using a thinner to loosen whatever you are scrubbing off. Brass wool? Sure, but you don't mention anything about what grade.. the coarse ones could do more damage..
Whatever makes you believe I have some issue "against the original poster?" I have no idea.. |
