Hi. I just put in a engine i bought from a guy, its starts, but its having trouble running on idle. I adjusted the valve clreance. I just rebuilt the carburetors, but we having alittle trouble syncronising them. I took it for a spin and it runs on 1st gear and alittle bit on 2nd but when i give more throttle it "dies out" (cheats)(dont know the english word for it) when im driving it runs on high rpm on idle, but when i just start it in the garage, and let it idle, it dies out.

Any help appreciated Smile

Does the engine have stock dual Solex or aftermarket Weber carburetors? There are instruction manuals for both in the Technical (owners manuals) section here. www.aircooled.net is a good source for parts & free advice if you need it. If it's not the carburetors than the problem has to be the in the ignition, timing, distributor. What year is your car? We'd love to see some pictures of it.

Check the vacuum advance hose- even if it works okay, it may be leaking enough to mess things up.
Don't forget to remove it when adjusting the idle timing- easy to forget.
