The protests against VW starts in germany on october 23th

This is a page that informed about how a global company from Wolfsburg treats its fans and its history! We find: So not! We want to achieve an improvement!

http://www.facebook.com/pages/So-geht-ein-Weltkonz...izard=true

We want to achieve something! We want to reach a rethink! We want the fans are hand led properly with an automotive brand!

We ask you not to make abusive or insulting, we want here at a reasonable level to point out that we can achieve something together and maybe there can be a rethink!

The goal here is definitely NOT the brand that everyone can think for sure here to talk bad or make! We want to be seen, to make us attentive, because the FANS are the ones who make a mark!

what we're talking about here is just SSDD. VW is always trying to "safeguard" their trademark. While I don't begrudge them a safe trademark, I think they do go way overboard in the attempt. I for one will not buy a VW unless it is an ACVW... something they have completely turned their backs on already. I realize I am but one voice, the idea the OP has is that many voices in unison can create change. Unfortunately VAG is deaf and doesn't care.

The idea that someone would be harassed over brochure scans is crazy.

Everett, DW (doppel-wobber.de) now must remove all brochure scans.
Maybe can come back with low resolution ones only for viewing, thats crazy for me!

What you see you can download in the ineternet, but any low res (not defined by vw at the moment!) makes no sense.

see also the last updae at doppel-wobber.de

last update: (google-translation):

With yesterday's news VW has published the first rules of the game for further handling.

The case of "double wobber" VW has in the last few days now shown how painful is the future to deal with fan pages.
First, direct contact is to seek - to vibrate instead of the Abmahnkeule. We will act immediately.
This is a small victory for all website owners who always stood up for the brand and still enjoyed no support from VW.

For double-wobber the thing is now clear:
There are no brochures to download, since VW has here made his position clear. Representing and integrating according to the guidelines would be me ("just view", "low resolution") currently too much effort.
Volkswagen announced how this will now pursue more of his own classic page.

A withdrawal of my statement made by the VW Law Department, I wait. After all, VW has apologized for the warning and thus at this step only logical!

Other problems such as the lack of spare parts for older VW generations and thus the proper commitment to their own history but still needs to be addressed. But that is another story!

The lawyer-pukes think they own the world, but they are smart
enough to back down in the face of united, strenuous resistance.

There's a term for this kind of vicious, overblown defense of assets
of minimimal commercial worth: Dog in a Manger.

I wonder how that translates into German?

What resolution scans did he have on his site?

Because unless they are HUGE (600+ dpi) they are basically useless for printing with any good quality.

From a business stand point, why would VW support the old air cooled stuff?

The corporation is run by a board of directors who must answer to the share holders.

There isnít any money in it for the share holders if the corporation supports cars that were sold 40 or 50 years ago. Profits are made from what rolls off the showroom floor today.

And while there may still be a lot of air cooled people still out there, their potential new sales of VW products to that group is so small it isnít worth VW trying to cater to them.

Their brand, their name and a lot of the other things they are trying to protect are THEIRS! And as such they have every right to protect their property.

It may be a shame to many of us that they have forgotten their history, but they have to focus on current sales to stay in business, not on what is left of what was sold 50 years ago.

Good luck with your protest, but in the big business picture, I think you are wasting your efforts and in the end it may just come back to make things even worse.

I agree with a lot that is said here but, public relations are huge factor to large businesses especially with a customer base as loyal as VW's. VW turned their back on the aircooled market 20 years ago and disowned everything aircooled. Ironic that now vw dealers call me for parts to restore old VW's for their showrooms all the while attys for vw are harassing me and every other "parts for Volkswagen cars supplier".
I think a bigger point to be made is VW being a bully to their loyal owners.
All this being said I will never buy another new VW nor will I reccomend anyone buy one.
I'm done with thread have a great day!

I fully understand the frustration, And yes they are a big bully.

But look at the sales figures.

If the internet is correct, total production of the beetle was less then 22 million cars.

In 2010, VW produced nearly 5 million cars under the VW brand.

So in todayís market, 4 years of VW sales nearly out paces the 22 million beetles produced over its life time from 1938 to 2003.

How many beetles or air cooled are left? And what profit does VW stand to make off of them?

Yes it is the history of the brand, but the VW name and company is no longer anything like what it used to be when they produced our cars. Itís a different world and a different business world.

And the number of sales they would stand to make from air cooled owners is so insignificant that they donít need or want us!

As publicly stated by MANY air cooled owners Ė we would NEVER buy a car from them again! So why should they cater to our needs? We arenít doing anything for them, so why should they do something for us?

Just asking. And trying to look at this protest through their eyes.

Only response I can make to this is that it is because they have turned their backs on what my interests are that I would not consider buying a new car from them. So, it is a cause and effect that nobody seems to be acknowledging. I can still go into my local Honda motorcycle dealer and get parts for Honda's dating back to 1959. Agreed, he probably doesn't have them sitting on the shelf, but he can go on hondanet and check all honda dealers for the parts or supersessions.

I concur with everything else you say.

Be careful what you wish for. Old VW's have an outstanding community of suppliers making and selling all manner of parts, and in the process they compete with each other on both price and service which benefits the consumer (in this case, us).

Would we really be better off if VW threw its weight around and tried to corner the vintage parts market? Personally, I'll take Wolfsburg West over a VW dealership parts counter any day of the week.
