Plans are for it to be kind of an 80s look crossed with German look. Completely dechromed and silver vein on all the chrome.

Had a snow day yesterday. Snow didn't amount to much. What was supposed to be 20" turned out to be about 3". It did give me time to get the other axle assembled.

Engine is starting to go together. 1641 for now. The heads aren't done yet. They're ugly and need to be cleaned. Also pulled the valves and inspected the guides. They're in great shape. Lapping and reinstalling them.

Worked on the Bug finally yesterday after taking a few weekends to work on my wife's Thing.

Took the heads apart, walnut shell blasted them, lapped the cylinder sealing surface, and lapped the valve seats.

Then started assembly.

Starting to come together. I have gathered most if the parts needed to have it run and stop.

Looking good, definitely moving faster than my 71 super. I took some time off to build a rock climbing wall in my bedroom, just now starting to get back to the super.

Thank you. Progress has been slow going. Just got promoted at work, so not as much free time, plus working on my wife's Thing has limited my time with it.

Out of nowhere the other day, I remembered how Prelude seats in VWs was all the rage in the 80s and 90s. I looked on Craigslist, and found a pair 2 miles from home at a great price.

Got to fabricate a seat track for them. They're quite comfortable and look pretty at home in the car.

Been a while since I posted anything. Went to install the seats in the bug, dropped a bench grinder on my Ghia, and the bug got sidetracked a little. Took about a week to fix the Ghia, of work I didn't do. A friend did. He did an excellent job. Fixed some other flaws too.

I finally got back to it this weekend. Unfortunately, I am leaving for Atlanta today. I'll be back on Friday. In the meantime, I got some work done yesterday.

The drum on the rear drivers side tried to fight me on the way off. I won.

I bought a windshield at the Bug Out a few weeks ago. So, slowly it's improving. Just need a little time and some funds. I am going to replace all the ugly hardware. Wrote a list yesterday. Need to place a fastenal order.

Little bit of an early 90s touch. KROQ sticker from 93 or so. I had them on my 69 growing up in SoCal. Bought 5 on eBay. Put one in each quarter window.

Yes, I'm planning on painting it. Not sure when. Just want to get it running for now.

After watching my friend paint parts of my Ghia it doesn't seem as mysterious as I always thought it was. Funny thing is, he used all my tools, including my hvlp gun, so it's something I could've been doing all along. There is a paint place close by that can mix paint to the OE color code. Clementine. L20d if I remember right.

Well, last week I played with the car a little. Cut the old seat up, and welded it to the Prelude seat. Needs to be cleaned up a little, and so does the car, but the driver's side is in.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Today I powder coated the ugly backing plate. It's still ugly, but at least it's ugly and shinny now. The sliver vein hides some of the ugliness.

Also did the heater levers.

Last thing I did was the accelerator tube. Can't have it not match.

Ordered 2 more quarts of Masterseries this morning. Now I can finish the passenger trailing arm, paint the drivers trailing arm, and clean, weld, and paint the pans.

Some phosphoric acid and a wire wheel followed by Masterseries.

I actually took the stub axle off and painted it off the trailing arm.

Started the trans fork too.

Just the 1st coat so far. It's getting at least one, possibly two more. The whole chassis is getting masterseriesed. Have to weld my new pan quarters in. I'm going to paint the trans too, as soon as I decide on a color.

I decided that I am going to powder coat the pan retainers orange. Started cleaning them up. They actually clean up quite nicely.

Cleaned with a wire wheel. A storm rolled in right about when I got this far so I sprayed the floors with rusty metal primer. Also removed some dents from the pans.

This weekend I'm going to try and make the time to weld some new metal into the pans and paint them.
