Scored some parts cheap yesterday and had a fun ride with my wife about 250 miles to go get them.

Finally had some time to work on the Super today. Been trying to get to it for weeks but had some Ghia maintenance to do.
Anyway, today I cut the spare well (most of it anyway) out of the car. Again found a pretty hack repair from the accident it was in whenever it was. Slowly getting better. The one I cut out of the front clip should fit in it nicely.
And in case you're curious. Here's one of the Ghia projects:
The pedals were in really bad shape. Broken even. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

Usually get metal from CIP1 because the shipping on orders over $100 is free. However, some of the bigger parts on this car have come from Jarrett Imports in southern VA. He brings a bunch of metal to car shows I go to and his prices are good. Pans and channels came from him. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

I would love to be able work out on the driveway like that but sadly our HOA would probably fine me on the spot. |

My HOA has sent nasty letters. I ignore them. My house. Don't care. At the end of the day I make it look nice again. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

Wow just read your thread and admire your steadfastness but I have a question, why start with a bug that needed so much work? I just bought a 72 Super and the guy has done a bunch of replacement too but it beat him so now I reap all his effort. Some of it still needs to be tweaked but he did an admirable job. I will continue to watch as you proceed with your project gleaming ideas for mine.
Thanks for posting!!!!

Nice car you have. Love the color.
Never planned on doing this much work to it. Planned on just sticking disc brakes, lowered struts and an engine in it. Was going to drive it a while then sell it. Quickly I found I couldn't just half ass it. The pans it had were save-able. They'd have been ugly though. The channels were save-able but again, ugly. The whole front end I could've ignored. Clearly the car drove that way for many years. I couldn't do it. I have the tools and the friends that could help. So I replaced the front quarter. When I'm done it'll be a fairly nice car. It'll never be perfect. Being a Super though, I can customize it and not feel guilty or hear anything from purists. There aren't too many Super Beetle purists. This is my 3rd Super. I'm trying to build the car I always wanted in the 80s and 90s and didn't have the money, tools, or talent to build. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

wow - that is quite the project - great work and determination.
Hoping my own new project isn't nearly that involved.

Looks like you have a much better starting point then I did. Last week I came across a 72 Super at work the guy said he'd take $500 for. It's a CA car with fresh paint. Project he abandoned. I'm seriously considering it. It's rust free. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

Well, how wrong can you go for $500?
That's why we let this one come home.
