I have had this trouble several times. I happen to have a few new locking mechanisms so that makes it a matter of replacing the old with the new. But
I have fixed them in the past, its not always just the lack of lubricant. Sometimes you have to grind the ramp in order to get a better approach angle. When you do,this you must insure that the new ramp is very smooth. Try moving it back and forth by hand a few times, you can feel it.
There is no sync. The action is all in the wiring. |

What "ramp?"
Can some one show that on one of the pictures, please? _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

You're joking, right? You want us to explain this in words and annotated pictures and color coded diagrams and I'm thinking I should shoot a video of this for you in the morning BUT you refuse to take the lock out and look at it. Is this a joke? Do you want/need a video? Please explain. _________________ 1987 Syncro Westfalia, stock (bought 1994)

NO.

A simple arrow to the "ramp" is what is requested.

A video may be overkill, but if you think it will help.....

I took it out to take the pictures you see in this thread.
I simply just do not understand what / where this "ramp" is. _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

The ramp is in the part with the key. Take that out and all will be understood. As I said, there is nothing holding that part to the van right now other than friction and the actuator rod that is snapped into the white plastic retainer. Good luck. _________________ 1987 Syncro Westfalia, stock (bought 1994)
