Still alive and well! We are driving through Virgina as I type this.
We had two fantastic nights in NYC with Kathy's sister.
Yesterday, Friday, we left NYC and drove into a very wet storm on our way to Philadelphia, where we visited friends for beer and dinner.
We then continued to York, PA where we stayed of the night.
In the morning we were going to the factory store of Snyder's of Hanover pretzels when we chanced upon a local second annual car meet.
We drove over to check it out and they insisted that we participate.
The people were wonderful, we had a great time but were there for only about an hour and a half...
We had decided to head to Greetbelt, M.D. which is my mom's hometown, to visit her best friend and her husband, both who grew up with mom.
We did stop at Snyder's, and there was a truck scale just sitting there... 3,400 pounds.

Yeah... and I'm wondering what color you'll select for Missouri when you visit here tomorrow evening? I'm getting my garage/collection ready now! My old Coca-Cola bottle vending machine in on and cooling the beer, and ready for action.

...I know Kathy chose purple for Minnesota (Prince's home state), and I made Wisconsin look lile Swiss cheese. We have had some friends choose some colors too... Otherwise no rhyme or reason.
Bill, we are looking forward to visiting. I am typing this from a microbrewery in Knoxville where we are having a light lunch. Nashville in a few hours...
Old Coke machines? It will be like visiting Kathy's parent (7-up, Cole, lots of old gas pumps...).
You have to promise to visit us in Richmond, .CA where we have a '56 Wurlitzer:

It's painted the color of the first car that gives them a wave.
More importantly , if MI is the Split state, and MA is the Bay state, where is the Vanagon state? _________________ .ssS! |

Heading to St. Louis... We are looking forward to see BulliBill.
Here's a few pics leading up to now...
We made it to Greenbelt, M.D., my mom's hometown. My mom, my mom's best friend, and best friend's husband are all 80 years old, just as old as Green belt is.
Bonnie & Lee are dear friends of our family, and at least ever 5 years my mom & Bonnie see one another. When I was a kid, both families met up for camping.
Fantastic to see d time with them...
We camped at a small inexpensive place that night heading towards Nashville. Late in, early out for us...
We stopped in Knoxville for lunch.
Made it to Nashville, had a great time there too... made it to the Johnny Cash Museum...
...today we also made it to Mammoth Caves in Kentucky.
Trip still going great. Sorry this is short. Kathy's driving and we ate listening to the podcast; "S-town".
Looking forward to Saint Louis! More another time soon. _________________ ----------------------------------------------------------

Quick couple "teaser" photos...
We made it to Bill out in Saint Louis.
Wonderful to be visiting with Bill & his wife.
Many more pics later on. In the morning will be giving The Toaster a well deserved tune-up.

Yep! It's true, the delightful Kathy & Bryce are sacked out in our guest room, and the "Toaster" is resting after a long drive today downstairs in our 7 car garage awaiting a tune-up in the morning!

Bryce performed a thorough, basic engine tune-up and oil change in my garage this morning, and we gave the "Toaster" a well-deserved bath and clean-up! We toured some of the St. Louis sights this afternoon. It's been an honor to have the "Toaster" and Bryce and Kathy visiting with us at our shack!

Gateway to the West...
We've been having a wonderful time visiting with Bill & Kathryn.
Many of you reading this have likely met them before, and know Bill ("BulliBill") as the wonderful, informed and overal incredibly friendly people that they are.
Bill's love, interest and promotion of VW dates back to his childhood with his parent's '64 bug and has continued to this day...
...not mention being the organizer of "Buses Nowhere Near the Arch" which is coming up on its 32nd annual meet (September 1,2,3 & 4th ~ Labor Day Weekend, 2017).
Kathy and I have been warmly welcomed and treated so kindly with wonderful hospitality.
Having the time, space and helpful companionship for The Toaster's much needed tune-up was a real treat.
The well organized and wonderful VW haven that Bill has is a treat to the senses.
The parts, the signs, memorabilia, but naturally also the wonderful VWs...
Just as we did, The Toaster felt like an honored guest.
Beyond VWs, we were able to share meals, received a wonderful tour of the city and we all checked out The City Museum.
If you have never heard of the City Museum; GO. The best way that I can describe it is a dream of wonder, fun for kids and adults alike that makes you feel like Alice in Wonderland. The best and most unbelievable space you could ever imagine.
...I have more photos, and will need to post some more eventually...
We will be sorry to leave St. Louis. We couldn't ask to stay with nicer people, we only hope that we have been half as enjoyable to spend time with as Bill and Kathryn have been. Also we very much hope to be able to reciprocate their fantastic hospitality out in California some time soon.
...Bill even took on making sure that The Toaster got a wash. It's spiffed up, tuned up, and we'll be continuing our way West. _________________ ----------------------------------------------------------

If anyone is out on I-70 in Kansas today, watch the westbound side for a cool Pearl White tin-top Westfalia SO-42 headed towards Colorado, and if you see 'em zooming along, wave like hell! It'll be a "Toaster" sighting. I suspect that they'll overnight in western Kansas somewhere and hit Denver on Thursday. Great folks, you would be so lucky to get to meet them!

Another quick update from the passenger's seat...
More photos from our cross-country and back in The Toaster
July, 2017... In Kansas heading West again as I type this.
We are 6,310 miles into this trip.
It has been going GREAT but to say we are doing a marathon across Kansas, and it is 104 degrees out.
I just replenished Kathy's and my neck bandanas by soaking them in ice water...
Just a few pics...
Kansas City:
Topika:
...this one is from the amazing State Capital building dome... you can walk outside at the top of it. If you look carefully, you should see The Toaster's roof:
Abilene, KS:
We hope to be in Boulder, CO tonight, hopefully not too late.
Greeting from the road, everyone! _________________ ----------------------------------------------------------
