Yes, it would "really devalue" the car.

Unless your 55 rag is a total pos, it'll de-value it. You can't permanently bond fiberglass to metal. After a year or two the seam will start to crack. _________________ Check my classifieds for kewl gauges:

Ain't gonna happen....beside I thought I have seen the conversion in metal....I'm familiar with trying to get fiberglass and metal to go to lunch together... _________________ Looking for SP Kadron manifolds...please !!

Yes, if its too far gone to be saved, then go ahead. But to a completely restored, stock or close to restored car then NO. |

If I were to cut up something and give it a split window, it would not be what you have. I would get a very cheap and/or rotten late model or flat window super (I draw the line at round windows) and do it to that. Might as well give it a turbo subaru or mazda rotary while your at it. |

Unfortunately not everyone can restore a car and give it the justice it deserves to truly be restored (and if modified like wheels and lowering, done right, tastefully and easily reversible) but a LOT of idiots can hack them up and butcher them to pieces. Luckily it seems your not an idiot. _________________ Formerly known in the forums as "OVALTEEN"

Thank you Keith....an idiot sometimes...but not a stupid idiot. I usually try to bring back a car to it's original state as far as exterior and interior looks. But I have been known , often, to change out the drive train, and brakes to make it (for me) a nicer, safer driver....I've built show cars before, and totally restored cars too...that ain't gonna happen again....I hated being a little Hitler(pun intended) and not let people be people in or about the car..... no!!! you can't bring food into the car, keep your feet off the carpets, ad infinitum.... They are meant to be driven and enjoyed....not trailer queens just going from one show to the next.
Mind you I have the deepest respect and appreciation for these cars and people that build these cars, but like I'm saying...it ain't for me.
Like I said...I was likely having a past , way past, un/medicated flashback when I first posted my question... _________________ Looking for SP Kadron manifolds...please !!

Sounds like a great idea ,go ahead and do it . All the non VW people will think it is a real split and everyone else will think that you hacked a nice oval to make a Quasi split .
Oval Sunroofs are still cool . Not every VW has to be a Split .
