Actually the videos are a pretty good representation of life on the road.
In the Colombia video, the mechanical problems weren't that bad so the video is a fair representation of the problems (although I didn't include the 3 days I sat on the side of the road watching 4 different mechanics try to bodge my breaks...for the following reason)
The trouble is, the mechanics are often in the worst parts of the city, meaning if I want to keep my camera I can't get it out to record. This is Latin America after all!
Anyways, in Panama I was mostly rebuilding the engine so that video for sure will focus more on the dramas, I have been able to record most of that problem.
Costa Rica too (where I am now) I have managed to record everything.
The videos will reflect what happens....BUT I want people to see that all the hard times are worth it too!!! They are travel videos...I just happen to be in a bus. |

Its all open really, but mainly the west coast. I wouldn´t mind coming in to see Colorado though. The way things are going it wouldn´t surprise me if I ended up going to Alaska via the east coast |

If you come thru Dallas I can offer a couch. We hosted a couple that drove through from BRazil, across Russia, the middle east, etc to France a few years ago. _________________ Robb

Maybe you could bring your bus too, I traveled parts of Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia in a Kombi convoy, I miss those days. I hope to meet up with a few of the Samba members when (if) I make it stateside.
For completeness, here is the "Death of a VW Bus" video I filmed last Saturday. I thought I was doing my final test run of my newly acquired Costa Rican engine; so I made a video to get the guys on here to listen to the motor for diagnostics, but during the test drive it all went tits up.. check it out.

Also, I'm probably appealing to the wrong audience as we'd all like a new turn-key motor - but having spent the past 2 months straight living in a mechanics garage and because I am no longer (mechanically speaking) in a position to accept people into this "free-accommodation-in-my-Bus" project, I am accepting small donations to get me back on the road, and the doors re-open to the public. So if any of you feel like metaphorically buying me a beer, here is the bar: http://www.gofundme.com/stuckinthemiddleofnowhere _________________ Around The World in a VW - Follow the Docuseries

I'll be in Honduras for a couple weeks in May. If you make it that far, I'll hook you up with some killer homemade baleadas. I've also built a few VW engines, but hopefully you won't need that expertise by then. _________________ Kenneth

Thanks mate. I would hope that I wont need the help by then, but given the amount of problems so far it wouldn't surprise me. I will get in touch if it looks like I am going to there at the same time as you. _________________ Around The World in a VW - Follow the Docuseries

The first part of the Panama video is now available (watch in HD as always)
This is the part where we shipped the bus from Colombia to Panama and had a pretty big adventure trying to get the bus back. So as a consequence this one doesn't contain a whole lot of VW goodness, but to make up for it, Part 2 of Panama is ALL VW'ness...that is the part that contains the problems that I am currently dealing with in my other thread...and have been since December!

Enjoy

Part 2 will be ready soon enough.
Thanks to everyone on TheSamba for your continued support. I am so glad you are all there.
PS if anyone else is ever thinking of making this trip, or heading to South America I can give you lots of good info on how to get across the roadless Darien Gap, just PM me. _________________ Around The World in a VW - Follow the Docuseries

Ben,
We watched the video tonight on my laptop. It's another great one. You really are a natural at relating your experiences. I believe you have a big future in some sort of documentuary film or television work. I'm curious to see if you made it out of Panama and how the bus is now running. My wife and I are both big dog lovers and work a lot on saving homeless animals. We are in love with Alaska...what a great dog!

Thanks Matt. It is good fun making the videos so I will keep at it until then end of the trip. I did eventually make it out of Panama but only to get stuck even worse in Costa Rica. I haven' t even started making that video yet, but the 4500 files I records should make for some interesting viewing...watch this space. _________________ Around The World in a VW - Follow the Docuseries
