I have to disagree.
on that premise then Sunnydogs thread shouldn't have it's own story here..

It has minimal Bay content - when one has a specific problem on a Bay on a trip, you should start a new thread that outlines the problem, solicits the help, and outlines the solution. Then the thread stays useful. A journal format isnt useful, as the helpful info on Bays is buried in stuff most here arent interested in, ergo lost.

To be really fair, this isnt my forum and the owners are pleased to do with it as they see fit.

He gave the bus away to a guy 1/2 way around the world. They are living in it until the guy can come and get it. Interesting, don't you think?

Oh man - I've seen those guys, that's terrible! So glad to hear they are OK. very lucky to get out of that one alive.

They would for sure be a great candidate for our Kombi, but it is promised to someone else. Grant has now quit his job and sold his house and will be over to see us before too long. In the mean time old copito isn't getting much love. We have rented an apartment in Mexico and are working on the videos from there so aren't really using it a great deal.

The interesting part will be to find out if the if the "bad luck" follows the bus & its new owner, or if it is firmly attached to Ben.

Although, hearing that the new owner quit his job & is selling his house to pick up the worlds best known case study of Murphy's law...

Heard a quote today - thought of my friends on The Samba:

Let me get this straight, after looking at some of your videos & reading some more of the thread, you gave up a six figure job at twenty something, you're pulling a pension & you still needed donations to live this meager existence in a van?

I gave up my career at 26 - I'm 35 now. I don't have a pension, I worked until I was out of debt and had enough money to travel.

"meager existence" Shocked do you have to be rude?

No I don't need any donations to live in a van, nor to travel. That lifestyle is pretty cheap and I make enough by working odd jobs to make that sustainable.

For the past 4 years however I have been working increasing amounts to document and share a first of it's kind travel series. That started with a video every few weeks.. Yesterday I edited for 14 hours straight and that is typical these days of how much work I put into my series. Obviously when you work 14 hours then give away the product you produce for free, that system is not sustainable. Some people (the readers of this thread, I'd assume) like what I do and want to see more....after all, nobody else is investing this much time in creating this type of stuff.

Some of those people who would like to see more are willing to put in $1 a month to help me spend my time creating this content rather than flipping burgers - which I don't believe to be the best use of my time.

I feel very blessed to have the support of these people, running this type of business is far from easy, it takes a lot of work.

I feel that I've been pretty clear on this subject and it has been raised a number of times in this thread. I hope that this give you the information that you need....Now, back to editing.

(new episode tomorrow)

*Those 14 hours were just to create the last 6 minutes of this episode. They didn't include the weeks it took to film, or the hours that I will now put into producing, marketing and engaging with 9 separate platforms.

Respectfully, none have a career at 26, and few at 35. We all have to reinvent ourselves every 10 years in this world. This isnt a bad thing, as this is how the problems of the world get solved.I made boatloads in the tech sector, went off on my own 14 years ago, and now enjoy making modest amounts making others successful.

I respect that if you get people to like your content and voluntarily pay for it, you are a successful capitalist. Nothing wrong with that, hat tip.

Laughing Love your series- and wait for more. Every episode takes me back (like way back -1972-) where I was an immigrant to Australia and drove a split most of the way round and a Holden panel the rest of the way. If there had been the AV support you have- I wouldn't have worked either- but 6 mo on and 6mo travel was the norm.

Now watching your trip- I'm inspired to travel round USA and see the places I've never been. But gotta be quick as health and old guy syndrome (similar to T-4 syndrome- where your main bolt bends and breaks) are running right up my backside.

I did try to use my photography to finance another trip, But shopped my medium format stuff round New York City only to be finally told that Time Life had laid off over a hundred staff photographers and all the agents had been viewing portfolio's for 2 weeks.

So- point is - Your work has precedence- and only the best survive in the world of travel adventure. Your honest portrail of the highs and lows of your adventure is what great journalism is made of.

"NO FAKE NEWS HERE" should be your banner.

How ever- as a mechanic - I would personally be interested in every cause for the many engine failures.-

Comparing the guy who rejuvenated his Dads original tourist program bus to the " lifestyle thread" ????

As Dad used to tell me, that opinion is " lonely"

Great episode! I just caught up on season 4. Your production level getting to pro TV quality.

How long does it usually take from mini-adventure to getting your episode up on Youtube?

Thanks mate - the timeline is a little messed up. It was very difficult to work on the road whilst dealing with all the mechanical issues, fires and hosting new people every other night so we weren't always able to get them out in 'real time' We always gave priority to the filming so that we were able to capture everything. Now we have the footage and have stopped traveling to work through it.

I'll have another one out to you on Thursday (should be a good one for the VW lovers)

The next installment of the Hasta Alaska series deals with engine removal number 10. The 14 hours of editing I was referring to in the previous message was to produce the last 6 minutes of this 20+ min episode, which is all wrench talk and covers 2 weeks of living in a Tijuana mechanic shop.

On-going criticism of the "wrench-talk" that I include in these videos makes me leave most of the mechanical stuff out of the series these days. I filmed a lot of the breakdowns, struggles and lessons learnt but I leave almost all of it on the cutting room floor to avoid the headache of having to defend my every move. Which I personally think is a shame and a classic case of the few ruining it for the many.

This episode is different, I've kept it in. It will be out next week to the public and is also available right now to those of you supporting our series on Patreon

This episode covers engine removal #10 and the most common issue that I've faced with my motor(s)
