And an extended body... The Tischer XL 65.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

It says it was extended 65 centimeters (like two feet longer wheelbase), and only 27 were made according to the seller on ebay:

http://kleinanzeigen.ebay.de/anzeigen/s-anzeige/vw...70-216-703

Can anyone help me with these pictures? I cannot make then look bigger for some reason... I've been trying for a little while... Taken from the broken link above. If link does not work just type Tischer XL 65 and it should show it. If anyone can post them for me... Thanks!

The small photos were saved and uploaded as small images; no making them bigger. However, considering that is an eBay link, the photos and text will be gone within time. For preservation sake, I saved the photos and had the text translated. Here it all is:

Check this out. It’s the largest collection of "Vanagon-Information" I know of:

Welcome, on our websites. This is the private Volkswagen utility vehicles archive collected by Moritz Heitmann und Christoph Boltze. At the moment we've about 700 brochures online some more we'll upload in the next weeks.

I know its not a vanagon, but I looked at this kind of Karmann coachbuilt a while ago, and was wondering if anyone knows a little more about them. How is the handling, reliability, and such...

Its for sale here:

I just bought this off Vzi last weekend.

It is built by Foster & Day here in the UK. It is one of 17 built.

I am pretty happy with the van as a whole, but was seriously mislead with regards to the engine.

It was originally a 1.6 JX, turbo diesel which was upgraded to an AAZ 1.9 using the original fuel pump & turbo.
It seems that the AAZ failed at some point & a recon AHU from a TDi was fitted.

I was lead to believe that everything was sorted, but after an initial drive & a long trip home on an AA van, it has come to light that a turbo diesel is very different to a TDi. Parts are not interchangeable.

I now need to find an electronic pump, ecu, turbo, fly by wire throttle pedal, a load of wiring plus a whole lot more.

My daily driver Audi A4 has the parts I need, so I need to buy a new daily driver!

Here is the first photo I have of my new van.

Inside is pretty good though. It's in good condition & is mainly dry.
There is a tiny bit of damp via the top front window as the rubber needs replacing.
This will be one of the first jobs.

I will get some more pics up as I go.

There is tons of space inside & am looking forward to using it, which for now is limited as it won't go up hills!

There may be another way to make the engine work.

A Land Rover 200 or 300TDi mechanical pump may do the job. It's a whole lot simpler than converting to full TDi, although it's not by any means straight forward.

I have one on the way, so will see what I can do with it.

I thought I would cheer myself a bit with a new set of wheels. I needed something bigger to help with the gearing & didn't fancy changing a gearbox too!

9x17 for the back. Don't mind if I do! - I hope they fit.

Thanks pete nice for all the pics! Very nice find!

This interior layout is different compared to other campers of same style. The bathroom is directly behind the passenger, and the kitchen seems longer than a Karmann Gipsy, and on the driver's side. This makes more space in the middle of the van, but the space to crawl to the front cabin is smaller. Small price to pay to be a little more at ease in the camper. The little sliding door to separate the front cabin from the rear camper is a very nice touch... I imagine having front air conditioning would be very efficient... If you ever add it...

Hopefully all will be sorted out with the TDI engine... What the hell was the PO thinking?? Getting parts from the original 1.6 engine and hope for the best with the AHU block? Just to make it ''driveable'' for a quick sale?

Looking at your web site, I'm pretty confident you will be able to make all this work perfectly in no time.

How do you access the engine? from the rear outside, or removing floor from inside?

Those Porsche twist wheels are so niiiiiiice!!! It will transform the look of your camper. I though about having those fitted to my van.

Access is gained through the hatch in the back.

I don't think the seller knew much about the engine. A reconditioner fitted an AHU instead of an AAZ. I don't think they knew the difference.

I think I have found a new daily, so the Audi can be stripped for the parts.

Tx Pete!

You mean access to the motor is through the hatch in the back from inside the van?

Excellent for the new daily! Yes! Cool Cool

And how is the bathroom? any pics? Wink Wink

I went on the web looking for "Foster and Day campervan" and found this one for sale:
http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=790335

Is that yours?

I need to edit my first post and add "Foster and Day from the UK".

White grilles have to go, so does that bumper.

The wheels will be taken care of soon, as above & I think the stripes might have to go too. I will add some better stripes, I have something in mind & it will look very cool.

I tested the pull out sun shade today for the first time & all is good, if a little funky with the colour. I wonder how hard it would be to get a custom one made in my own colours. A boat sail maker would know Wink

I have removed & sealed the top front window today. It took bloody ages!

A stainless mesh floor would work, well vented, drains well when showering, might be a bit drafty in winter tho, maybe this should be as a last resort. Seen one as shows done on a bay chassis from florida, seems pretty well laid out.

Yes it does look like something is not quite right up front. Needs some contrast colours. I believe the grills should be black.

On the other hand, I like that front bumper... Just wished to be closer to you to snatch it up... Well, there's this small pond called the Atlantic in between us...

Some new side stripes with a modern look can transform your rig for sure.

I might paint the grilles black, plus paint the bottom half of the bumper black too.

I have spent a fair bit of time today investigating exactly what has been done with the engine.

It looks like the engine is a 1Y, which is a 1.9 non turbo diesel.
It has had the JX inlet manifold, which will have the wrong port shape & the exhaust manifold & turbo from a JX which could be used.
It has a non turbo fuel pump, so won't give enough fuel under boost.

It looks like I have a choice of replacing the pump & inlet manifold, or go right ahead with the TDi from my Audi...
