Lowlight antenna placement - left, right or ...

So, I'm thinking to myself "I need to get an antenna to fill this hole," so I go digging through my parts stash, and I find an NOS Hirschmann red-tip antenna, which got me thinking - why not mount it in the center? This antenna has a nice swoopy chrome base, very similar to the OG Ghia mirror.
(note: this is not the two-piece jobbie you see on bug quarter panels or mounted across a bus emblem)

Maybe it's the paint fumes, but I think it would be neat. The only downsides I could see would be if you wanted to remove the windshield, and it would get in the way of my roof rack.

The antenna I have is kinda like this one, mounted between the windshields of my old camper; I originally bought this for my barndoor deluxe

Would it interfere with the squirter (If you have one) or windsheild wipers?

IMO I think it would look pretty cool, but I wouldn't do it to my car.

I'd go for something more conventional. I think it looks good on a split bus, but that's because there's something there anyway. It seems to me that to pull it off you'd have to incorporate it into some kind of theme.

lonotch has a point, do you have a washer fluid squirter right in the middle?

No way in the world would I mount a center mount antenna on a ghia. The lines on a ghia are two nice to clutter up the windshield with a big ass antenna. They look cool on early splits because the windshield is more upright and flat. Plus, its symmetrical with the dual glove boxes on the dash - it splits the car in 1/2. I think it would look really really silly on a ghia.

Just my opinion, but it doesn't even look good on the Beetles, yet alone on a Ghia. Now on the bus, it looks good because there is already a division there.

I, for one, don't think you are on crack. Not because I think mounting the antenna where you suggest is a good idea, but because I think people on crack don't do much of anything, let alone mount antennas.

My ghia antenna is a wire loop mounted on the wire cover forward of the dash, because it was a "radio-delete" car and no hole was in the fender...I preferred to keep it that way. These cars rust with out any help from extra holes cut in them, and pristine sheet metal is hard to find. Plus...sounds ugly.
