Here is some information on comparing distributor cap clips as they changed through the years on Bosch distributors.
The top clip and mounting bracket are typical of those used from the 1940's through the end of the 1950's on cast iron distributors. Bosch periodicaly used a wire clip as well and there is a thread in the oval forum about what years these were used. The wire cap clips bracket is spefcificaly designed for their use.
Next going down was the 40 hp cap clips. The clip itself is longer and the bracket was made of steel. There was a later bracket used on some models that was made of an alloy different than steel.
The clips you see without a bracket were the ones used on the early aluminum bodied distributors. They were attached directly to the housing and were not removeable but do frequently come loose.
The bottom assembly was the one used on the distributors through the 1970's and in some cases beyond this date. These clips can be distinguished by the two finger design. _________________ Roads Scholar &

Hopefully this post is not too old for me to get an answer... how can I get a hold of just the clip? Specifically, I need the clip that does not have the bracket. I can find plenty clips with the brackets, but I'm needing one without the bracket. I search ebay, Amazon, and a general web search, to find just that clip. Distributor works fine, but missing one clip. |

I made a repair kit for those clips that were pressed in at the factory as they do not have a way to reattach without modifying the housing. You can also just use them without reattaching them. The tension should hold them on.
