Is it possible to change oil seal on input shaft to transmission (shaft with splines on it that connects to engine) without going inside the transmission. I am also having difficulty trying to identify which is the correct seal from on line parts dealers. In my searches I refer to it as "input shaft seal",but nothing comes up for auto tranny, although something comes up for manual transmission. Any help would be appreciated. |

Try 'torque converter seal' in your search. |

Replace the governor seal first. This can be done without too much trouble. Most autos leak here.
If you have the engine out, you can change the torque seal without going into the transmission. _________________ Frank

Use this. easy to replace with no transmission disassembly. You must seperate the transmission from the engine..sorry.

Shop wisdom: use two seals side to side. |

Use 2 seals. Check torque converter mating areas and make sure they are smooth and free of any burrs that may cut the new seal. _________________ -cliff
