|
|
So my dumb ass threw my trashy door panels away 7 years ago when I started my restoration
Now I am trying to make my own (custom vinyl color) and I am having a hard time using the door frame to make it work.
I actually paid a small amount for another Samba member to trace his panel but it did not turn out very accurate.
Is there any resource here or elsewhere with measurements for the panels? I only need the doors (I actually saved the rears!).
My vehicle is a 67 Fastback.
Thanks for any help |

If you have a rough pattern and the door, it should be simple enough to come up with a masonite, or upholstery panel test piece. Then just fit and make adjustments from there.
Pallet slip sheets are real handy for making patterns 3'x4', thick enough to be rigid but still cut with scissors, the wife works at costco so they have lots that go into the recycle bin.
The panel clips are adjustable so those holes have some fudge factor. _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/jim_martin_engine_build.php

I have a 66' Fastback. My door panels have water damage and was thinking of cutting new panels as well. I have Autocad and access to CNC router so i was thinking of making some. Just need to find the time and measure and draw them up. |

Thanks all for the tips and advice.
Mike Fisher is going to send me an older plain panel to use as a template. I think it's going to be a lot less of a PITA to go this route.
Well not as easy as just buying a set from Sewfine.......but where is the fun in that Actually that would be nice but I've got the panel board outline cut and I want to just get er' finished. |
