Looking good Those rims are similar to what I have. It should be easy to pop that logo off since its just a heavy duty sticker. There are many sellers on Ebay that have VW logos in a variety of sizes and they are cheap. Just measure the existing logo and get one to match. No problems with mine, after three years they look like new. _________________ 85 Westy w/ 2.2L Subaru

I think they look pretty slick!
Maybe not the style I'd think of being practical for a muddied-up prerunner, but nice looking on the van. Are they strong enough for your prerunner theme? _________________ ---------------------------------------------------

Yes, just keeping those center covers off was suggested to me by my builder too. Wasn't sure that kwould be the best thing for my grease-caps/hubs/etc., but heck - if they can do it for rally cars :p

Thanks for the tip, i'll shop once i'm back and can take measurements.

Yeah, but really i'm building a fakero - not likely to see *serious* amounts of offroad/mud/sand/desert anytime soon, especially not until i have an onboard 12V compressor for airing down, and perhaps a Peloquin TBD. Good point on wheel strength - that is one thing I see rarely covered in the various threads (including ultimate wheel thread) - I guess i'll find out the hard way when one of the rims pancakes?
Reality is that this thing is going to be my frequent driver, if not daily. So weekends will be camping, logging roads, trailheads, cascade loop, etc. But weekdays Mossy will just be a "regular" westy, getting me from A-to-B. _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

I'm hoping to cover or pop the little Stinnes logo discs and replace with VW or something clever/unique. Ideas are welcome...

I used these

Good quality stickers.

I have an irrational phobia about washboard roads, electrical terminals, and vanagons. Has anyone had much wiring come loose while offroading? I used to have errant wires work loose on my old beetle. _________________ 1984 Vanagon Westfalia 1.9 wbx

For me, my gremlins have usually come courtesy of cold-weather. Oil-light/buzzer, alternator slow fail, transmission fail (but was probably my fault as I'd never checked/changed the transmission fluid ), and water-blinky fail.
I'm sure now that my van is going to be more "capable", i'll find a new source of trouble involving washboards _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

Is this photo chopped? Backward front plate, slider door track still in place. If it is real I can't find anything but that single photo, which says it was a support vehicle for 1987 Paris-Dakar. But I can't find anything in the history of that race about it, or anywhere else. I have the wheels, I could start there.

Since you asked, few posts up, if anyone had anything interesting or clever...
I think they're clever or at least interesting. It's a little subtle nod to the past. Both to the original T2, and the cultural iconic status. And it doesn't hurt that my kids' both loved disney's Cars movies, and they call my blue bus "Filmore."
I had them made at a place that does vinyl wraps for vehicles. I got two sheets of 4, in case they get messed up or start to peel off too soon.
Here's a not-so-close-up. You have to be looking to notice them. They look better when the wheels are washed.

Stance
Here's how Mossy is sitting these days:
Clearances from center-hub to fender-lip is:
- 19" at back
- 19 and 3/8" at front (without driver, passenger, or two batteries) _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |

LuVWagn ~ how do you like your Yokohamas in the snow?
I've been trying to decide on what to put on my 2WD when I add the GW 1.5 lift springs next fall. I want a good all-year tire that will do well in snow but won't be screaming on the highway like a BFG AT or General Grabber might... _________________ 1990 Syncro 16" DoppleKabine 2.1 DJ 112i

Unfortunately I haven't used these tires yet, and they're also a discontinued model now, so my experience with them (soon) may not apply to other Yokos... I should be able to update by end of summer though. _________________ '91 Syncro 16 Reimo Hightop Conversion, eTDI |
