Well, other then the windshield trim and door pull spears the Alken is complete. Thanks for all of the support during the project and now we will try to make some shows. I am in the process of moving right now so it will make attending shows with it this year hard. Hopefully my invitation to Amelia Island from my Forgotten Fiberglass friends will hold and you will see it there next year.
The cockpit cover really ties it all together. I may always keep it on. We made a leather bag to keep it in just in case.
I need to get the final weight at some point too.

Now, on to the March 56 Ghia. It has been with me for 25 years and is off to the same paint shop! All of the metal work has been done for years and I have taken the Ghia from PA, to KY, to Oh and now back to PA.
I have the Webasto Sunroof tucked away and will see if I can find a good convertible/roof shop to help me out. I've already rebuilt the header bow so it is all paint and fabric and cables.
Time to start another build thread. Note the NOS Judson Scoop box on the rear shelf!

The english distributor of Webasto sunroofs bought all the parts & bits from Webasto in Germany, and continued to make the Webasto sunroofs. I bought a new Tudor Webasto sunroof from them 6 years ago for my oval.
They are placed in North London, UK, and their name is R & S coachbuilds.
Might be they can deliver spares

The Alken turned out fantastic! Congratulations on finishing the build.
The pictures of it in the driveway remind me of neighborhoods on the East Side of Cleveland, OH where I grew up.
Look forward to seeing the Ghia get its turn. |

Thanks! That house is in Garfield Heights on the south side of Cleveland right below rt 480 so I'm sure it is just like the ones you remember. This one was built in 1953.
Instead of having my son rent, he got a job in operations at the Cleveland airport, we bought the foreclosed house and restored it so he can pay us the rent!

Took the Alken out to its first show which was the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. What a variety cars and the event happens throughout the week to benefit local autism charities. I think they are expecting over 2000 cars tomorrow.

Very well done. Could you send some pics of the underpinnings of the sunroof on the Ghia? I'd like to see how the headliner was attached.

Wow where does the time go. This thread/build is now 5 years old and the car restored now for 2 years. We were down in Strasburg, PA with the trains and thought you might enjoy some photos.

Timing is everything.
The Alken will be covered in the November 2018 issue of VolksWorld.
My Alken first appeared in R&T in November of 1958, it will be back in print 60 years later!
I just proofed the article for print and they did a great job.
