Heres one for ya -in Boulder Co., back in 1982, I'm towing my 59 single cab down to the maintenance shop @ the hotel I'm working at, where we were going to put in my new rebuilt engine, well were towing it w/a rope, which keeps breaking, well dUH !, so we park my 54 Plymouth( the tow rig-lol) and push it by hand the last block or 2, as we come to the intersection , I decide to push thru the gas station on the corner, the guys hanging out there jump up to help, but after we pass the pumps, they say WTF ??? I tell them were going across the street to the Hilton, to put the motor in, they just crack up, but keep on pushing, on the way home I dropped them off a six-pack, they were still laughing at the" long hair gringo w/no motor in his truck".....
I just got a call from the guy that was helping me tow the truck,he's dying from cancer.... 21 years later , he still remembers that day...... _________________ Tom

The one thing I remember the most is I got my 65 and Greggs VW service is about 10 Blocks away, I had a motor but all the wires on the car had been pull of and no conectors where on any wire, I could make Sh!T out of Crap So me and 2 friend pushed it the 10 blocks at 2 in the morning, funny part was we missed the block Greggs is on and ended u-p about another 8 blocks off We got it there and then got it back only to sell it the next day |

once my accel cable broke on my way home, so i turned up the idle as much as i could, let the clutch out slowly and drove 3mph all the way home. another time my set screw in my shifter linkage in my bus fell out near sf . after rummiging throught the bus for a hour i found a old carb stud, the threads matched and set in perfectly...needlless to say i made it home. _________________ When I'm done punching the clock, I start punching the clown. |

This isnt a VW story but involves VW parts. I was coming back from NYC with a load of my friends sisters stuff in the back of my 1980 ford pickup when in the middle of FDR drive ( about 4 lanes wide) my clutch pedal goes to the floor. My first thought was I blew the brand new clutch. so using the starter we got it off the road to a gas station. Crawled under neath to find out the linkage had fallen off somewhere in the middle of all that traffic. So after about 2 hrs of trying different things I finally got a eyelet from the bed of my truck and a VW wheel lug that was on the floor of the truck. I hooked it up and managed to drive home (80 miles) with a VW wheel lug and a tie down eye for a linkage. In fact it even lasted 3 days till I was able to get the right linkage. If it werent for that wheel lug my ass would have beeen paying for a huge tow bill. |
