Curtis,
Do you know where I can get the turn signal and ignition switch for my 71. Both are missing, and I'd like to add them back in. I haven't come across any yet. _________________ ACME Cruiser Sand Rail, 1776, Combo spindles,

You can take the lock part off the housing and leave it out, many buses have this problem ime. Unfortunately you will need to disassemble it all to do that, but the lock taken out will keep this from happening ever again.
Biotex, you need to search and you will find the switch and ignition, they are scarce and expensive but available. _________________ 1971 Deluxe Sunroof Bay 1905 stroker, dual idf40's, 74mm Scat forged crank, engle 110 cam. CB 044 heads, AutoCraft rockers, chromoly push rods

I have a used signal off my 71 panel. Or you can look for NOS. may want to look for NOS as I'm not sure I want to sell it. Classifieds here is best bet. Put a want to buy (WTB) ad.
Ignition switches are available new from oversees. Just see one on eBay. Now if you need the tumbler I just seen a hole assembly posted in classifieds. _________________ Special Thanks to:

Ok lock issue rectified. Live and learn. The lock was ever so slightly binding on the slot where it goes threw the steering column tube. Full disassembled to rectify. _________________ Special Thanks to:

Looking for photos and information on weather or not the steering column tube top should be flush with top of turn signal housing or stick out or sit back a
little.
And after you answered that brain teaser how about your feeling on TMI headliner color choices? Only two shades of white offered. I41 on the right and y44 on left. Original is in the background.
I think the only choice is Y44. Wish there was something closer but once its up I will barley look at it I'm sure.

I would leave the signal mount loose, mount the steering wheel, then adjust the signal housing to the correct height to allow for the canceler to engage the switch. _________________ 1971 Deluxe Sunroof Bay 1905 stroker, dual idf40's, 74mm Scat forged crank, engle 110 cam. Correct, position it after it's all together, that green book you are using as a headliner backdrop should specify a gap.
BTW I'd pick the I41, the other is too white for an early bay. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I must have missed the gap in the good book. Maybe third time is a charm! If anyone recalls this please post for the viewing audience _________________ Special Thanks to:

I was just schooled on this the other day ... the gap is mentioned on pg. 24 of the Electrical System chapter, "To install 1968 through 1974 switch:" step #8. The gap is 2mm. and illustrated in Fig. 7-5.
Keep up the excellent work! |

Serviced the pin on the end of stick shifter. Worked oil in by gently depressing the rear bulbis end of pin. Did this for about a half hour as I kept dripping oil in to flush the assembly.
Striped corrosion and old paint of side window support brackets, treated for corrosion.
Gave the glass a thorough cleaning. Window cleaner and fresh razor blades. Windows are 40+ years old but cleaned up pretty nice. What imperfection are there gives it character and history.

Can refinish begins!
Armed with 220 grit sand paper, lacquer thinner, and a brass brush I attacked.
Before( I started the top one):
After(I still have little bit of sanding and to treat for rust on the lower one.
Don't forget to clean all the connectors even the ones in the light socket!
Chrome paint soon to come. _________________ Special Thanks to:

Anyone no of the part number for the 71 blanking grommets that go on the 2 inner wheel well holes used for anti-corrosion access.
Here is a link to a Euro vendor that has late model blanking plugs. They also have repoped early bay but if I can get them local I would rather do this.
Am I correct in thinking that early bay blanking plugs were black rubber not white plastic as pictured in ad below.

Those look like the correct ones for a 71 if you are referring to the 4 up inside each inner rear wheel well as well as in each end of the rockers in a couple of spots. I've never seen a rubber one in the ends of the rockers. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

To clarify. The blanking plug location is front wheel well are to access inner rockers. Two holes.
So the white plastic ones are correct? Not the black rubber ones pictured in link below the white plastic ones.
Thank you for your wisdom Sir! _________________ Special Thanks to:

No link for rubber ones I can see but the white plastic 2 pc ones are what goes in the ends of the rockers that you see in the lower rear of the front wheel well (and nearly a dozen other places under the bus). The only rubber ones under the bus are the oval shaped ones on the insides of the doglegs. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Here's the link to the rubber blanking grommet for same application. Curious as my late bays have these rubber ones not the white plastic. What year did they change this part?

I'm not entirely sure as most buses around here no longer even have the metal those plugs go into anymore I can confirm my 72 came with the white plastic ones and my 78 had the rubber ones. I also went around and checked the rear inner wheel wells of a number of buses and even a 6/77 still uses the white plastic ones back there (didn't check the 78 ). _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.
