Hi
Thanks for all the lovely building pics.
Some questions:
Are you building two bodies?
One for yourself and one for customer?
Will you build a real replica chassis or use Beetle floorpans?
Keep up the great work.

Sounds great.
I guess then that you will have a lot of work in front of you!
Have you set any type of time frame on these builts?
Will both cars be with the Mathe style grille?

it is not about the fastest, but about the most correct
I do not have a time frame the cars must be correct so there is no time on them it is like wine the longer it light down the better it is
the cars are going to be different as the original ones |

Yes, I agree, if you plan to build with most details from the original cars, it will take a lot of time.
Just doing the research for the details is a big job.
Not all of the Type 64 replicas have the correct built up and details, maybe intended.
Please post when you have some progress.

Someone just posted this in another thread but it’s got one of these being rallied at the 6:30 mark.

The car you are refering to is the replica of Michael Barbach from Austria.
Built with the first Typ 64 produced in mind.
Barbach has really used his replica.

This replica was recently finished in the US. Many details and inner structure has very little to do with the real thing, but high level of craftmanship.
It was intended as a race car from the beginning.

Here is an attempt to sum up the Typ 64/Typ 60K10 car/replicas.
1. The Mathe car, only original surviver of the three cars built 1939-40.
2. Prototyp museum build up/replica of second car built.
3. Barbach replica of first car built.
4. US race car/replica.
The above cars are ready and drivable.
5. 356 Seppe here is building two replica cars.
6. Replica being built in Indonesia.
7. Bucket from Holland, few details at the moment.
If you have any more info, please post here, send PM or email me.
Email address is in the first post of this thread. |

So basically all three cars are, in a way or another, back on the road?
I'm not familiar with the Barbach replica, but the Prototyp still has the chassis and a lot of original parts, right? It's the Theseus ship again, at wich point a replica ceases to be a replica (or an repaired original ceases to be an original =) |

1. The Mathe car is the only original car left.
2. The Prototyp is a build up/recreation with a few original parts, not a restored car.
3. The Barbach replica has no original parts.
Barbach who partly restored the Mathe car in the 1990´s, says that this car had no chassis number/vin on the frame at that time.
In the list we could also add that the Mathe car had two wipers when new, mounted above the windscreen, please see picture.

That about sums it up.
What about the american replica, it was supposedly not looking to be a true replica, more of a salt lake racer with a souped up 1100 cc 36 hp based engine, some seriously hefty speeds were expected! But then the project fell to the ground, does anyone have any updates? Has it been completed?
It would be exiting to see at what speed the rear wheels finally leaves the ground! _________________ 1973 1303S w sunroof Click to view image

Any "new" details around these cars are most welcome.
The US replica is now ready, built as a street car, not a racecar as planned from the beginning.
Here are some pics.
