Thanks, I started a project page: https://www.facebook.com/PorscheTyp64Replica
Was thinking of putting it here, but it's kinda difficult where to put it It's a 1960 chassis, but it will be coachbuilt. Or kitcar? Or is it vintage speed? Never mind all that, i just put it up on facebook. |

Start a build thread in whichever forum you want as long as the project is relevant to that forum. A type 64 replica is definitely relevant to the Split forum. Just don't start a duplicate thread in another forum, that will cause one of the threads to be locked.
One of my distant backburner projects is reproducing the 160 km Veigel speedo, but because I don't stand to make much money on it, it's not a high priority right now. _________________ Check my classifieds for kewl gauges:

Take look at the type 64 in the vintage speed forum being built for land speed racing you may like! _________________ land speed nut |

Went to the Porsche By Design exhibit in Raleigh NC just to see this thing. Beautiful car. Only disappointment was that it was one of the only cars you couldn't get behind to get pictures from the rear. Well worth the drive. I appreciate them bringing it over.

From what I gather out of two authorative books: Ludvigsen - Porsche - Origin of the Species, and Chris Barber - Birth of the beetle, the correct designation for the Berlin-Rome rekordwagen is Type 60K10. The type 64 was a design that never was materialized, but the design was used to clothe three VW 38 chassis, no 38/41 - 43, a cheaper way to build a fast, small capacity record car. The K stands for the variation on the type 60 bodies, starting with the 1936 prototype as K1. Since the Berlin-Rome cars were built on Type 60 chassis, although with considerable modifications of the pan itself, we should quit referring to this car as a type 64. _________________ 1973 1303S w sunroof Click to view image

What a lot of questions.
I also have one.... What car is shown of the left of the picture. |
The question is 5 years old, but my guess is that is an early Denzel, also from Austria. The shot below is at the Sebring race track in Florida, 1954. The Sebring Denzel does not have the cooling slats in the rear apron, and the taillamps are set slightly farther down than on the one in the upper photo.

Good idea, maybe we could post some "new" pics on these fantastic cars and the replicas being built?
Here is one from the time:
Anyone have any detailed info on this? |
